Margaret Kirby
MARGARET PALMER KIRBY
(née SUTHERLAND)
1930 – 2024
Sadly, on September 6, 2024 our dear mother Margaret Kirby (née Sutherland) departed this earthly realm to be reunited with the love of her life, our dad Raymond.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Raymond in 2008; brother Gordon; brother-in-law Bill; and sister-in-law Enid. She is survived by her beloved sister Florence Mehmel; brother-in law Jack Kirby; her children, Craig (Heather), Debra (Don), and Jack (Gerri); nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom initially worked for the T. Eaton Company, mainly in the Western Canada Buying Department. As with most mothers of her era, as her children were born she became a stay at home mother and provided us with the best life any child could hope for. Later in life she volunteered at the Strathmillan School lunch program for several years, and then after that worked at the Hudson Bay warehouse.
Mom and Dad loved to travel. Together they saw six different continents and numerous countries and cultures throughout the world. Their travels solidified Mom’s life-long belief in the importance of accepting all people no matter what their place in life. Mom was an incredibly kind and pleasant person. She loved everyone and her smile would always brighten any room.
One of mom’s special places in her life was at the family cabin in Grand Beach. She started going there as a young girl and looked forward to spending her summers there with family and friends. Nothing beat the midnight or much later family talks with her on the deck. Her advice was always to be valued and her humour always to be laughed at.
You had a life well lived, Mom,
and will be very sadly missed.
Cremation has taken place and at mom’s request there will be no formal funeral service.
Margaret’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Craig & Heather, Debra & Don, Jack & Gerri? Sorry for the delay, I have been changing phones this past week which has delayed receiving your Mom's obituary. As everyone has stated, She was a loving & caring person and we were proud to have her and know her as a wonderful wife to my brother and most caring Mother, Mother-in-law, Aunt, grandmother and friend to all.
Uncle Jack and Carol, and in memoriam, Aunt Enid.
God Bless you all.

Sincere condolences Deb, Craig and Jack. We've lived across the street on Beaverbend Crescent from Mr and Mrs Kirby. I have so many memories of times spent in their home hanging out with Deb. Mrs Kirby always made me feel so welcome. My Mom and Dad had so many good times with your Mom and Dad. Summer vacations spent in Grand Beach were so much fun. Christmas Eves at the Kirby's was also looked forward to. Mrs Kirby was such a good friend to my Mom during my Dad's struggles. When my Mom passed unexpectedly she took care of many of the arrangements for us. It was a great comfort to me knowing Mrs Kirby was across the street watching out for my Dad. She was such a special lady. Cherish the memories you have of your Mom and let them comfort you in the coming days.
