LESLEY “DARLENE” KITNEY

September 28, 1949 – July 4, 2024

Lesley “Darlene” Kitney was born September 28, 1949 in Winnipeg Manitoba; on July 4, 2024 Darlene passed away peacefully and Heaven gained another Angel.

Darlene was predeceased by her parents, William and Kathleen London; and her brother-in-law, William Doherty.

Darlene leaves behind to mourn her husband, Lou; children, Sheri (Don), Ken, and Karyn; her brother and sisters, Dianne, Tim (Wendy), Brenda (Brian), Laureen (Noel); grandchildren, Sarah (Garrett), Zack, Warren (Julissa), Becka (Chris); her great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Darlene was a very well loved and respected woman; she touched the lives of many people and was always described as kind. To quote Maya Angelo, “Your legacy is every life you’ve ever touched,” and Darlene leaves behind an amazing legacy.

Darlene spent the majority of her working life as a welder where she was well liked and respected by all of her coworkers and developed many friendships in the work place. Darlene had a very strong work ethic and after many years of hard work and sacrifice, she was able to spend the last 20 years really enjoying life with her husband, Lou.

The first time they took a winter vacation in Mexico, Darlene claimed that she had been dropped into paradise! She then developed a love for travelling and visiting new places and over many winter vacations her dreams of holding monkeys, exotic birds, and swimming with the dolphins had all come true!

Darlene’s world was her family which she loved and prioritized about all else. Darlene loved nature, animals, enjoyed bird watching and found joy in the smells and beauty of flowers. Darlene was a gentle loving humble woman and she made it clear she didn’t want a funeral or service of life because she wasn't comfortable with people fussing over her. We honour Darlene's wishes and her legacy and will always cherish the memories that remain. As per Darlene’s wishes, cremation has already taken place and the family will gather at a later date to share happy stories and funny moments.

Special thanks to Home-care, the palliative care team, and the palliative care unit at Riverview for taking such good care of her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Cancer Care Manitoba.

Darlene’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
