JOHN ELMER KITZUL

John Kitzul passed away on Monday, October 7, 2019 in the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 71 years.

John was predeceased by his parents Kay and Steve. He is survived by his sisters Rose Ann and Elizabeth, kids Desiree, Jolene and Jarrett, Carol and friend Maria. John was born June 2, 1948 in Winnipeg, MB to Kay (Komerniski) Kitzul and Stephen (Steve) Kitzul, the oldest of 3 kids. John graduated from Elmwood High School in 1965 and retired from Phillips-Temro at 60 years of age after working there for 35 years. John was a dedicated worker at Phillips-Temro, he was the lead hand in the shipping department and was known for his reliability.

As a kid he rode his bicycle everywhere and into his 20’s he had a few racing bikes as well. John enjoyed summer holidays at the trailer in Falcon Lake with his family. As he got older he went on road trips with Al Anderson. When John was 19 and Al 23 they traveled 6000 miles in 3 weeks to Omaha, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles then Vancouver and back to Winnipeg. They also camped  at Grand Beach where they were always being told to turn the music down. John always loved music, had endless LP’s and his JBL speakers & amp sound system were the hit of many parties. John enjoyed classic cars in his youth, a 1954 Oldsmobile 88, a 1967 Dodge Dart, a 1969 SuperBee and cruising on his 1969 BSA 650 motorcycle. He was very particular about keeping them in great condition.

Later on he spent many fun weekends camping at the Whiteshell, Hecla and Buffalo Point with his wife at the time, Carol, his kids (Desiree, Jolene and Jarrett) and extended family where he always seemed to have lost his chair to the dog. 

You could always expect to find John with a cup of coffee and a donut, one of the kids favorite memories of him is Sunday trips to Robins Donuts and a park for a special treat.

Later he developed a taste for Tim’s! He continued this tradition with his grandkids Kaylyn,

Kolten, Auvryelle and Jaise when they would visit.

John was a soft spoken fella who often didn’t say too much, but when he did, it was to insert

his own dry sense of humour. His laughter was infectious.

In his later years John moved to Columbia Villa Apts he enjoyed playing Crib and cards and adored the company of the many residents.

We will all miss you John – Godspeed.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2019 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church).
