DENIS FREDERICK KOSS

August 10, 1943 - August 26, 2020

With heavy hearts, we announce that Denis passed away, at the age of 77 years, with his family at his side, on August 26, 2020 in the St. Boniface Hospital.

Denis is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kathy; son Cory (Dana) (grandson Easton); daughter Cheryl; brother Wayne (Dianne); several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Denis was predeceased by his father William, in 1993 and mother Verna, in 2007.

Denis worked for several companies in Winnipeg as an appliance technician.

In 1980 Denis moved his family to Swan River to work for Westside Appliances and he finally purchased the company in May of 1993. Due to his physical health he was forced to retired in 2005.  Denis and Kathy decided to move back to Winnipeg in 2007 to be close to their family and friends.

Denis enjoyed watching sports, especially hockey and football, he loved music and listening to all his old tunes, and he really enjoyed playing on his x-Box to pass the time. Denis had many lifelong friends that were special to him, especially his buddy Brian, he visited Brian often to talk sports, politics and reminisce about “the good old days”.

Denis’ family was incredibly special to him, especially his Grandson Easton who he loved dearly.

Denis’ family would like to thank the Doctors and nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital ACCU, for the compassionate care they showed toward Denis and the family.

In Accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal services held, although a small family gathering will be held at a later date. In the meantime, Denis’ family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. They also encourage the sharing of photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Denis’ memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

Hello:  I new Denis from back around 1960?   Am not sure of the dates.  He worked for my dad ( Ernest Henry Koss) for the summer.  He was a real fun guy to be around.  I am sorry to see he has passed on.  My condolences.

So sorry to hear about Dennis's passing.  I have such great memories of being at the house in Minitonas, riding to hockey games in the back of the service van (no seats, no seatbelts, just laying on equipment bags), staying up until 4:00am playing Atari Star-Raiders (how many Dad's did that back in the day?). Our deepest condolences.

Denis's parents, Bill and Verna Koss, were my godparents. Bill was my mom's cousin, so I guess Denis was my nth cousin. In 1955 they took me to Niagara Falls for my 14th birthday-- Denis was a couple of years younger but we had fun together. Didn't see him much after that until his Dad's funeral, but from his photo I still remembered that slightly mischievous smile. Rest in peace Denis, and my condolences to his family and friends.

We were so saddened by the news of the passing of our friend.  Although we didn’t get together as often as we would have liked, we both have such wonderful memories of Denis.  Mike had a nickname for him - “Mr. Triceps” and remembers some of his “Denisisms” - sayings that will forever bring a smile such as: Denis would say, he loved a beer after it had been in the fridge for a while as it had that “deep cold”.  He was very proud of his “dress sweats”.  When Mike and Denis were gym rats back in Swan River, Denis would get in shape by watching his diet, i.e. switching from beer to hard liquor.  When Mike and Cindy got married, Denis and Kathy travelled all the way from Swan River to attend and it meant so very much to us! We so enjoyed our get together, reminiscing on the past, or having deep philosophical discussions.  We will forever miss him.  Many thanks to Kathy for putting up with Mike and Denis’ bonding moments.  We’re here for you Kathy -  Deepest condolences to you and your family.  Mike and Cindy

Kathy and Family; We are so very sorry for your loss. Know that our thoughts are with you every day and are there for you if you need anything. After Denis passed, we had an image that Denis is up there with Sonny having a shot of whiskey and sharing a pack of cigarettes while laughing and reminiscing about memories made over a lifetime. ❤
