WAYNE KOSS
With heavy hearts we announce that Wayne passed away peacefully at home March 10, 2023 with his family at his side.
Wayne is survived by his wife Dianne of 62 years, sons Drew (Lisa), Kyle (Charlene), daughter Kelly, Grandchildren Ashley (Dan), Haley (Del), Kaela & Keagan, Great Grandsons Finn & Parker. Wayne was predeceased by his parents & his brother Denis.
Wayne worked for Winnipeg Hydro for 34 years, retiring in 1995 leaving more time for his true passion, working on custom cars; more specifically his ‘55 Chevy that he owned since 1965. Throughout the years he worked through many modifications personalizing his beloved car influenced by changing styles. Wayne was an early member of the Fifty 567 car club, joining in the early 70’s. Weekend cars shows, road trips and cruise nights became a family way of life.
If anyone wanted to find Dad you went straight to the garage where he spent countless hours working on not only his car but assisting his sons build their cars. He also helped other car club members, then enjoyed a Budweiser while admiring work well done. Wayne was also a passionate Bomber fan, which he also passed on to his family. To his friend he was known as Captain Bud, which encapsulates his love for cars and Budweiser. The relationships built in the car club extend past Wayne’s time as an active member. The community of people, in particular Tim, Bill & Don meant just as much as the cars themselves.
Kyle wrote: So we lost my dad yesterday. He passed peacefully in his sleep yesterday morning. I just wanted to put a few words here to celebrate his life. My dad loved his family, and we always knew he was proud of us. He loved Chevys, Budweiser, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and always enjoyed sharing these things with his friends. He loved spending time in the shop, talking about cars with his buddies. Anybody that knows me, knows I love all these same things, and I'm proud to say how much of my dad lives on in me. Love you dad. You'll always be with me whenever I'm in the shop or out cruising.
Drew wrote: This man taught me, work ethic. From a little kid always having the coolest bike because my Dad painted it candy apple red, to when I was 18 he found a 55 chevy just like his and he co signed a bank loan so I could buy it. We worked on it together....hours were spent in the garage as he taught me how to turn a wrench, how to change a clutch, how to pull a transmission, how to pull the engine out. Until I knew ever inch of that car, he guided me along. He taught me patience, when it was time for him to paint the car, I would wet sand one of the doors for hours so it was as smooth as glass. He would say..."keep sanding but don't sand through". I took so many compliments on that car, but I owed it all to him. I am going to miss having a few beers with Dad and talking football or cars or complaining about politicians. When Dad wasn't at work he was in the garage where he always wanted to be. He loved The Bombers and Budweiser. He wasn't a man of many words, he just set the example and I would follow. I am going to miss the hours spent under that car as we would curse and yell when we couldn't get a stripped bolt out or some other problem. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. RIP Dad...I am surely going to miss you.
Rest in peace Captain Bud.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the MS Society of Manitoba.
