GLENN WILLIAM KOWALCHUK
July 11, 1952 - June 21, 2024
A Photo Biography Video is forthcoming.
Please check back soon.
Glenn’s beloved memory will forever warm the hearts of his Loving Partner, Kim Belfry; Children, Michael (Sheila), Kat (Nick), Jennifer (Justin); Grandsons, Alex, Theo, Jamie; Siblings, Cheryl (Dave), Kathy, Ken (Lisa), Keri (Richard) Randal (Ashlee); Extended Family and Many Treasured Friends. Glenn is also dearly missed by our cats “Oh Oh” and “Bunny”.
Glenn was born and raised within a very loving family. In his younger years he moved from Winnipeg to Ottawa to Sudbury to Montreal and back to Winnipeg during his Father’s service with the RCMP. He attended St. Charles school, John Taylor and Red River College. Family holidays to relatives farms in Saskatchewan were one of his favourite pastimes.
His early gifts shone with his knack for fixing and repairing items within a spectrum of trades. He continued to hone his skills through education and experience & quickly became known as the guy to call for any home, vehicle or tractor repair (dearest to his heart). Glenn took pleasure in helping others, one of his many humble and selfless virtues. In turn, customers knew they could depend on his quest to figure out the problem & creatively repair it for the best possible outcome.
There are no words to describe Glenn’s profound love for his Children and Grandchildren. Kat, Michael and Jen brought more Light and Love into his world than his heart could imagine. He was exponentially proud of them and never missed a chance to share their gifts and accomplishments with others! His three Grandsons, Alex, Theo and Jamie were the apples of his eyes.
Glenn made many lifelong friends from his youth and school days, as well with colleagues through employment as a Technician with Red Top TV, a Lineman with Manitoba Hydro, a Mechanic with CN Rail, and a mechanic with Guertin Equipment for 23 loyal years where he especially loved working on everything from John Deer Tractors to Golf Carts. When Guertin’s closed, Glenn never fully retired. He continued working for former customers & joined with Ross Rutherford in a variety of operations.
Glenn’s fascination with Vintage Tractors, Trucks and Cars lingered through the years. He thoroughly enjoyed scouring the countryside for motorized vehicles he could buy and restore.
Glenn’s awe for animals, pets and all of Nature was an inherent part of him. He adopted several cats and a soul-mate Husky, “Princess”, all whom he loved dearly and took great pride in.
Glenn and Kim enjoyed a harmonious relationship for the best part of 18 years ~ so much laughter ~ so much care ~ so much love. They enjoyed adventures out to Glenn’s farm as well as joyful times at the beach. They searched the shores for heart shaped stones & created quite a collection! They also shared a love for their pets, nature, bird watching, music, dancing, singing, laughing, day trips in the countryside, and bantering back and forth as in a dance of conversation.
Glenn’s virtues were well loved by all. He was well known for his happiness and optimism, very kind heart, selflessness, generosity, unfailing wit and brilliance in all things mechanical.
Heaven has welcomed a very precious man.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glenn’s favourite charities, Craig Street Cats or World Vision.
Glenn’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Glenn was a close friend of my dads and our family for many years. When my dad got sick he came regularly to sit with him talking, even sat in bed eating supper together on the especially bad days. It was touching to see and a perfect example of the kind soul he was. There not just in the good, but also the hard times for his friend. We were sad to hear of his passing and wish to extend our condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Glenn through my partner Dan Knight and enjoyed his wit and stories about fixing various mechanical machines and how he would sometimes have to " MacGyver" them. I am fortunate to have a snow blower and lawn mower, which Glenn restored and still both run excellently.
Glenn was a kind soul and he will continue to be missed by all who knew him.
Rest in Peace Glenn.
