LISSY KUNCE

July 13, 1924 - September 14, 2023

With great sadness, we said goodbye to our beloved mother and Oma on September 14, 2023. Dementia had taken her memory and cancer took her life, soon after celebrating her 99th birthday with her family.

Lissy was born to Friedrich and Gertrud Spann in Berlin, Germany.  She met the love of her life, Roman, in the 1950’s, and followed him to Winnipeg to be joined in marriage and begin their life together. Their love for each other was truly special.  Lissy raised their three children with a loving hand, passing along many of her German traditions, including her Berlin dialect.

She worked as a Red Cross aide and stenographer in Germany.  In Canada, she used her talents as a proofreader, typist, and later became a hair stylist at the age of 60.

For many years, Lissy and Roman would rarely miss an opportunity to go dancing. They loved their life in Canada but enjoyed escaping winters in their favourite tropical paradise.

Lissy enjoyed singing in choirs. She loved cooking, baking and was a talented seamstress. Lissy was an active and devout member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister, and a Reader.  She was also a member of the Kolping Society, the Catholic Women's League, and the German Society of Winnipeg.

Lissy was predeceased by her sister, Wally; her brother, Wolfgang; and her husband, Roman. She will be remembered by her children, Sybil, Yvonne, and Raymond (Ley); and her grandsons, Joshua, Michael, Maxwell, and Simon.

Thank you to the staff of St. Joseph’s Residence who provided compassionate care to our Lissy in her final years.

Cremation and a private Mass have taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of St. Joseph's Residence.

We will always cherish our memories of you.

Tschüss Mama!

Ruhe in Frieden

Lissy's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
