MARK KUNKEL

April 12, 1995 – November 15, 2022

It is with both joy and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son Mark Riley Kunkel.

Peacefully in his mother’s arms, he was carried home to Jesus, free from the constraints of the body he struggled with in this life. We imagine with joy him finally having the opportunity to stretch his legs and raise his voice; running, dancing and surely talking everyone’s ears off.

Mark was adored and cherished by his 3 brothers, Kyle, Jordan and Graeme who always ensured Mark was included in the action of a busy household while ensuring his needs were met with tenderness and great care. Mark’s doting brothers garnered admiration from all who had the opportunity to witness them in action.

Mark was blessed with a large extended family who loved him to bits. Grandma and Grandpa Blatz, Grandma & Grandpa Kunkel, aunts and uncles, so many cousins and a Grandma in Heaven he never got to meet, who is most certainly now showering him with hugs and kisses.

We are so thankful for the many caring people God placed in Mark’s life through his years. We acknowledge with gratitude the Rehabilitation Centre for Children, the resource teams at River East Transcona School Division, St. Amant, the SPIKE day program, teams of social workers from various organizations, therapists, specialists and doctors. We would not have been able to care for Mark in our home for the past 27 years without you. Thank you.

The impact Mark made on this world was significant. He taught us things that no one else could have. He reflected the image of God in an unobscured way, his worth and his purpose surely fixed and given by God Himself.

We give all glory to God for Mark’s life, for his gentle passing from this world into the next and for the legacy he leaves. His memory will be a blessing.

I worked with Mark for three and a half years at St.Amant. Mark and his wonderful family were one of the first people I worked with upon starting, and I have fond memories seeing Mark, and collaborating with his family. My heart aches for Mark's family during this difficult time. I send my condolences.

I so love this picture of Mark. I was blessed to have seen it countless times in the five years a spent with Mark as his EA and friend. Mark and his beautiful family welcomed me into their lives which in turn changed my life in so many ways. My deepest condolences. ❤

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the Kunkel family on the loss of Mark.  I was blessed to be Mark's resource teacher for his first few years at high school.  Mark was one of those students who taught ME as opposed to the other way around.  While I was saddened to hear of his passing, I take comfort in knowing that he is now fully able to move and do all the things he wishes.  Rest in peace Marky-Mark (as I called him--that or Markus), it was an absolute honour to have known you.

Sending much love to the Kunkle family.  It was a blessing to see how Mark was included in all aspects of your family’s busy life.  He was both blessed and a blessing.
