Bobby Kurczewski

ROBERT “BOBBY” MARK KURCZEWSKI
September 6, 1972 – June 3, 2025
On a sunny day (rude), while the world was turning, ours stopped. Only Bobby could defy all odds, for so long, before his body was too tired.
With our sons’ voice in his ear and my arms around him, Bobby peacefully went to sleep on June 3, 2025.
Robert Mark Kurczewski – but don’t call him Robert or Rob or Robby – Bobby was born on September 6, 1972 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
As a young boy, Bobby joined the Boy Scouts of America, where he quickly rose through the ranks, embodying the Scout Oath and Law in every aspect of his life. His commitment to Scouting was unwavering and he dedicated countless hours to mentoring and guiding other young Scouts.
Throughout his life, Bobby shared a special bond with his brother Rick. Together, they embarked on numerous adventures – good and law-breaking – supporting each other through early life’s challenges and triumphs.
Meeting online long before it was cool to do so, combined with hours and hours on the phone (not text!) turned into 24 amazing years together.
Zachary shared his Dad’s wicked sense of humour, love of chicken wings, Frank’s Red Hot, and it made Bobby so proud to see the man Zach is becoming. Bobby taught Zach so many things about being a grown up and Zach learned a lot more from him that wasn’t being taught. The only piece of information that Zach regrets not having is where did Bobby put his Bowie knife??
Bobby’s love of technology and teaching led to a career involving both for nearly 20 years.
He also had so much creativity. He could quilt, crotchet, and is known for the beautiful pens he made. Those pens were shipped all over the world and resulted in long friendships.
When he had to stop working, we spent so much time creating together, cooking together (let’s face it – he cooked and I ate. Have you seen or eaten his sourdough???), and loving each other harder than we ever imagined. When he survived a terrifying curve ball that life threw at him, we were given a gift. Four years where nothing else mattered. Just us and Zach.
Loved ones who passed before Bobby are his father, Vince (2010); his loving mother, Anne (2021); and his treasured mother-in-law, Judi (2019). All of our dogs were waiting to greet him with tails wagging.
Devastated by his loss are his sister-in-love Amanda (they dropped the in law part years ago); brother-in-law Ryan; and cherished niece Emily. Poppa Lutman (Howard) loved Bobby as his own and was there until the end.
He will be missed by his siblings in Philadelphia: Rick (Kelly), Toni (Dave), and Tina (Dave). Also missing Bobby are his nephew and godson Jared; niece Caitlyn; and nephew Aidan.
Kevin – Bubba loved and valued your shared humour and geekiness.
Nicole – Your friendship and fried chicken visits meant so much to Bobby.
Countless friends and family, near and far, will miss him and mourn this loss forever.
In lieu of flowers, Bobby would want donations to go to a dog rescue of your choice.
There are no words to describe the immense loss Zach and I are feeling.
Bobby – I will always be proud that I was yours. I knew I loved you before I met you and I will love you until my last breath.
Bobby’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

He opened up the restaurant in the middle of the night and turned on the grill and began cooking food for us . Next thing the police where there with us in the restaurant and Bobby was cooking for everyone that night ! We ate and closed up and i took him and his brother (Rick) and Izzy home . I'll always remember that because that was the safest place in Philly that night with all the boys in blue with us ...lol. ..I know how much you loved your wife Tara ❤️and your son ❤️Zachary well this is hard enough to write but I love you man rest easy ❤️❤️❤️up there say Hi to Mom and Dad . Bobby,
Thank you for the incredible years of friendship. We've known each other for over three decades. Just teenagers sharing laughter during early school mornings, to hanging out at Drexel with friends, to online messages about where life took us. The best is how we shared about our families. Your love and devotion to your beloved Tara, Zach could be felt a whole country away. You always cared about what my John, Josh & Addie were up to and I appreciate you for all the kind words you had for me over the years. You will always be in our hearts as well as and your beloved family. Rest easy my beautiful friend. I'll see you again one day. Keep watch over us all.

Unfortunately I never got to meet Bobby, but I do have three of his pens which are very special to me because of the photos on them. I am so very grateful to him for his friendship with my daughter Nicole, and his kiindness to her. He sounds like an exceptional man with so much courage.
