DANIEL KUSHNERYK WROBEL

June 15, 1966 - April 15, 2021

It is with great sadness we say “au revoir” to our husband, son, brother and dear friend, Daniel, who passed away on April 15, 2021 after a lengthy illness at the St. Boniface Hospital.

Lovingly remembered by his husband Gonzague; mother Frances; sisters, Cathy (Alf), Carol, Maureen (Chris), and Wendy (Mark); brother-in-law Roy; and sister-in-law Laurie. He was predeceased by his father Dmytro; an infant brother, Metro Jr.; and sister Eileen.

Daniel worked in Home Care as well as at the Health Sciences Centre as a nurse, and with the Manitoba Nurse’s Union as a Labour Relations Officer. As a caring person, whom others could turn to, he was admired for the strong role he played in advocating for nurses and the profession.  Nursing colleagues depended on his knowledge to guide them and MNU will be honouring his contributions at their Annual General Meeting in April 2021.

Friends and colleagues recall his abundant generosity. Whether it was about his love and knowledge of nursing, his love of travel or his wicked sense of humour, Daniel had a story to tell! Many will remember him picking up the tab for lunch, or a Starbuck’s coffee, or buying a gift for one of the long-term care children and their parents at the Children’s Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Daniel Kushneryk may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. No formal service will be held, and cremation has taken place.

I have so many memories of Dan! Always go above and beyond, a few of us were out for dinner, wanting our dessert with vanilla ice cream but the restaurant was all our! Lo and behold the waiter went to the Safeway across the street to get us our ice cream for our dessert, all because if Dan’s charm! You will be missed! Condolences to Gonzaque, family friends and colleagues! Rest easy, cheers! I expect a beverage when I see you again!

Dan was such a good mentor and friend. So many laughs, all it took was a particular look and you knew exactly what Dan was thinking. His eyes said what his mouth could not. He will be greatly missed by those that had the privilege to know him. My heart goes out to Gonzaque and to Dans family. Rest easy my friend!! Give it a few days before you organize the Angels!

Dan was a true advocate of patients and the nurses who cared for those patients!  His expertise was second to none and many turned to him for his knowledge.  His wit was the only thing that preceded his knowledge.  Many are devastated at his passing but he left us many memories!  RIP Dan!  Til we meet again.

So sorry to hear about cousin Daniel.  He was such a great caring guy.  He always made sure to make the trek to Saskatchewan for any family functions, and would bring along family members from Winnipeg with him.  Everyone always gathered around Daniel he was so easy to talk to.  Our sincere sympathy to you all, he will be missed❤

Mr. Kushneryk was one of a kind! I never had a brother but if I had I would have wanted it to be Dan! I have Dan to thank for helping me navigate my way as a union leader as he was my LRO at SBH when I started my position as president of local 5. He had a passion for life, doing what was right and enjoyed  a good meal! He had a gift of bringing people together and he was so wise! Gonzague, he so loved you! Dan rest in peace and dance the night away!! Karen Sadler

I remember when I first met Dan. He offered me the most gorgeous stainless steel salad bowl that I use almost daily and a gorgeous picture for my living room. His generous spirit continues to grace my home. As well, when I needed some clear advice, he was a go to person! I followed his suggestions to a tee and as result it worked.  Plus he had a wicked sense of humour and loved my friend Gonzague with such an open heart.  Condolences to my dearest friend. Gonzague, his family and friends.

Dear Gonzaque. Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your love. We knew Dan from children’s hospital. He cared for our granddaughter Elle. He was just amazing!! She was in there for her first Christmas and Dan bought her a special pair of sleepers for her first Christmas Eve. Elle has passed away too and so we know that she’s once again with her special nurse “Dan The Man!”We will always remember Dan for the special person he was. We are very sad to hear of his much too early passing. Take care of yourself and know that your love was VERY loved by many. ❤️

Dan was one of the finest and funniest nurses I have ever worked with.  I will always remember the red food feast we had one Valentine’s Day while working nights.  Dan was a gifted caregiver who always put patients first. My sympathies are extended to his family and loved ones.

my high school buddy, we were all so silly back then.  We thought people in their 50’s were old.  Little we knew but laughed a lot.  We reconnected on FB thank goodness and saw each other in North Vancouver a couple of years ago and you were the same loving and kind soul. You spoke about your family and your love of your work. But most of all how much you loved your husband. Oh Danny this past few weeks I have thought of you and your sister and husband often. How their heart aches for you.  I know that feeling. Little we knew that our 50’s is so young and we deserved to have you a lot longer.  I cherish our memories of youth and you. Love you ❤

I only recently learned of Daniel's passing. My heartfelt condolences to his husband Gonzague , and his Mother and sisters and their families. I've known Daniel since he was in Navy League through his brother Metro, whom I went to cadets with. Our paths crossed so many times, and in so many unexpected ways over the years, and we would laugh and chat as if no time passed at all. He ALWAYS had a tale to tell. That's about 45 years of friendship and love we shared. I take comfort that he will be with Metro again and that his suffering is over. Good bye for now "little brother". ❤
