NORMAN WILLIAM KYLIUK

April 21, 1944 - December 16, 2021

It is with deep sorrow along with relief that our beloved Norm is no longer suffering after his courageous battle with cancer.

There is a hole in our hearts, and we will miss him so much.  Norm is survived by his loving wife Donna; daughter Amber (Jonathan); grandchildren, Sarah and Emma; daughter Micha (Colin); grandchildren McCallum and Kennedy; siblings, Ernie (Carol), Donnie (Erna), Gloria (Stephen), Joyce, Gladys (Kerry), Judy, (Jerry), and Ken (Karen). He was predeceased by his parents, William and Nettie.

Norm was born in Winnipeg (just hours apart from his cousin Walter).  They always called each other twin cousin.

He went to John M King, General Wolfe Junior High and then Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute.  He played football at DMCI in 1959, then also played for the Rods, Rams, Hawkeyes & St. Vital Bulldogs.  His football career was cut short due to knee injuries.  Norm was an avid curler, golfer & then in the recent years became addicted to pickleball.

Norm & Donna met in 1968 and were together for 3 1/2 years.  Then after a 10 year span came into each other's lives again.  Norm was very happy to take on Donna's readymade family and became a dedicated husband & father to them.

Norm was always the best dressed for all occasions from the time his father, who was a tailor, made all his clothes for many years and he maintained that image right up until he left this world.  He would always say to the girls in the morning, "from an ugly duckling, into a beautiful swan"  when he was ready to head out to work.

Norm was a kind, caring gentleman with a wealth of knowledge.  He drove everyone crazy at times with his methodical ways especially when it came to eating sooo slowly.

He was very diligent to rehab so hard after his many surgeries over the last 6 years eager to get back to the pickleball courts.

He will be missed by his family & friends.

We love you forever.  Rest in peace.

A celebration of Norm’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 603 Wellington Crescent @ Academy Road (Unitarian Facility). Norm’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Norm's memory to the Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

Guy and I were so sad to hear of Norm's passing. What a smile, what a kind man, and with Donna, a great margarita maker. He was always fun to play pickleball with and we sure do miss him.❤

My Auntie Nettie Kyliuk's house on Sherbrooke Street was the centre of the Universe while we were growing up. As children,we got to gleefully watch the Eaton's department store sponsored Santa Claus Christmas parade march past the big living room window. Also,it was a home one of the first to have color TV,and the Girls Norman's sisters,Gloria,Joyce, Gladys ,and Judy just a baby then, but the older girls knew all the latest fades and dance moves even a twist with a bump. Norman, along with his brothers,Ernie and Donnie all played football and watching NFL on TV was serious stuff. The Kyliuk's house was football central and after a championship win,I swear I think the whole team came to celebrate in my Aunie Nettie's basement among the regulation pool tables where Norman was a shark. The basement wall was piled with cases of beer to the windows and my Aunt insisted that Beer would not help growing athletes as she had a seperate fridge for Milk only. After, injuries kept Norman away from sports he helped his father our Uncle Bill Kyliuk in running his successful tailoring business,Perfect Tailors. From there Norman helped launch and run a successful uniform business,Perfect Uniform. Growing up we got to realize how talented an athlete he was. Once introduced to  the best mask, snorkel, and fins,we saw Norman take to it all naturally and we could never see him in the water as he was frogmanning the whole of Winnipeg Beach. Later,my Aunt Nettie would tell her sister Lena ,my mother that she had bid news that Norman and Donna his highschool sweetheart where finally back together and that it was meant to be. Norman was a kind, quiet.and respectful  person.Always it seemed he took time to thought fully respond and his smile was worth a million dollars one piece of attire that he never wore out. Norman will be missed but his strength now will be the love he gave..it will endure. Blessed remembrance, Cousin Andrew Hretzay ahretzay@gmail.com

Donna, Micha and family, Judy and I were most shocked to hear of Norm's passing. Our deepest condolences to your extended family at this most difficult time to experience the death of a most loved family member. I first met Norm many, many years ago when we both curled at the St. Vital Curling Club. There were very few times our team would get the best of Norm with his brother Ernie curling third and a close friend of mine, Bruce Berven curling front end. Norm was always friendly with a smile on his face and a positive and often humorous view on life. We reconnected when attending family Christmas Day get-togethers at my brother's and later his son Colin and Micha's home. We always had a lot to talk about with Norm loving sports and our wives being flight attendants. May our good Lord give you the comfort and understanding needed at this time of sorrow and grief.

Dear Donna and family. Although we've only known you and Norm since we all moved in to the Legend, we know what a very special person he was. The way he bounced back after his knee replacements thanks to his hard work showed the quiet strength he had. We somehow believed he would win his latest battle as well. He'll be very much missed by many at pickleball and the Legend, and we know by many others as well. Our hearts are with you and your family. Love from Yvonne and Harry
