ELIZABETH LABATY

December 5, 1939 - October 12, 2018

Suddenly on October 12, 2018 our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, auntie, and friend-to-all was taken from us.

She was the beloved wife of John and they spent nearly 56 happy years together. She will be sadly missed by her two daughters Susan (Daryl) and Cindy (Roger; four grandchildren, who meant the world to her, Tyler, Sarah, Isabelle, and Alec; brother Morris (Carol); dear sister, Luba and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Justine and brother-in-law Clay.

Liz will be remembered for the kind, quiet thoughtful person that we all knew and loved.

Liz and John loved to travel and have been many places together. She and John made innumerable trips to Thunder Bay where Liz grew up. They also travelled throughout Canada and the United States visiting family and sight-seeing at many destinations. They enjoyed travelling in Mexico, Australia, and Ukraine but her all-time favourite was Hawaii.

Liz’s most special skill was cooking and meal preparation for anywhere between two and twenty guests at any given time. She will be remembered fondly for her culinary skills and her holiday and birthday celebrations which she ALWAYS provided for her family. Birthday cakes, pies, preserves, soups, perogies and fifteen-course meals. In the midst of all of that she would be playing cards and watching her soaps. Her favourite place to be was her kitchen.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.

“Mom you will forever be missed and always in our hearts.”

Our prayers go out to you all. Aunt Liz was a lovely, kind woman. We enjoyed our visit last March for sure.  Continued healing of your hearts is our prayer.   Tye and Debra

My heart goes out to each of you, as I know this is so very difficult. I hope in time, your fond memories will comfort. The thing I appreciated so much about Mrs. Labaty was her ability to cook and feed so many people with such joy and generosity. As a young teen visitng the house to spend time with Susan and Cindy, I recall the many amazing Ukrainian specialties, like home-made perogies (an absence in my primarily French-Canadian home). I never left hungry-- Mrs. Labaty ensured this! I know how much she will be missed by her family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
