ADÉLARD JOSEPH LABOSSIÈRE

It is with profound sadness we share that Adélard Joseph Labossière passed away on January 14, 2018 after an epic and courageous battle with Cancer, and held in the warm embrace of his family through it all. Beloved husband of 59 years to Denise (Dusty), née Lafantaisie, coolest dad on the planet to Michel, Sharon, Randy, Paul (Joyce), Garry (Jacqueline), and Corinne (Mike), and Superhero pépère to 6 beautiful grandkids Meghan (Craig), Sam, Stephen (Ashliegh), Monique, Jeremy and Breanne, we are achingly grateful for his peaceful passing which is a tremendous loss to us all. We are ever grateful to have all been together with him and mom over Christmas.

Ed was both a man’s man and a kind and sensitive soul, a man of few words hiding a big soft heart under a pretend tough guy image. Born in Sommerset, MB, the youngest of 14, he ventured to the big city at a young age, met the cute little Denise and they were married in 1959. They had 6 kids and worked tirelessly to ensure we had everything we needed, even in leaner times and through all the crazy things us kids put them through. We had some good times telling those stories over the last few weeks which provided dad with some good laughs.

This beautiful man of so many facets, who worked many different jobs, some difficult and gruelling, often a few at a time, he never complained. Adored by everyone who knew him, he had a special way with people, and an open gentleness that was infectious. He become known as the “Baby Whisperer” for his uncanny ability to lull a crying baby to sleep by simply holding them in his arms.

Respected and loved by co-workers, nephews, nieces, in-laws, extended families, everyone he dealt with, he carried that aura with him through his many hospital stays, gaining a health care fan club along the way.

Adélard, Ed, Big E, Elvis, the Silver Fox, pépère, a man who toiled until his retirement, who at the time of his diagnosis was enjoying volunteer work with mom 3 x a week, a man who loved his family above all, who took great pride in his and mom’s country home and property in La Rochelle, he loved it so much when people came to visit. We will never forget the many, many moments he created with mom for us, teaching us to swim at Albert Beach, building things in his workshop, working the garden with mom, making magical Christmases with his baking and sucre a la crème, shooting pool with mom and his adult kids at the St.Malo pub, the Magic Camping School Bus, bonfires, fishing trips with the boys, his one vacation to Mexico with mom, the way him and mom always opened their door to whoever needed a family meal or place to stay, teaching his grandkids about life, lawn tractors, cribbage, building sandboxes and macaroni ornaments and so many other things.

He truly devoted his life to mom and his family and instilled in us a strong work ethic, the importance of kindness and humour and in his last days really showed us his bravery in the midst of terminal illness.

Dad was predeceased by his parents Adolphis Labossière, Alice (née Pinette), Angèle Deschènes, Isabelle D’Hoore, Evelyne Grenier, Roméo Labossière, Germaine Tymchuk, Hilda Bercier, Théodore Labossière, Denis Labossière, Sylvia Labossière, Lucienne Labossière and leaves behind 3 siblings Elodie Van De Spiegle, André Labossière and Denise Mestdagh. The greatest and deepest loss belongs to our mom who loses her life partner and love, we hold her gently through it all.

Based on dad’s wishes, a private internment and reception will take place, with a larger collective celebration of his inspiring life sometime late spring or summer for those who wish to come pay their respects and share some stories, some laughs and honour him in joy rather than sadness.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at Cancer Care MB, the St. Boniface General Hospital, the Victoria Hospital, the Grace Hospice and lastly the staff at Seven Oaks hospital who treated our husband/dad with the utmost dignity, respect and tenderness in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in dad’s name to the Grace Hospice via the Grace Hospital Foundation are greatly appreciated.
