JANET LABOSSIERE

June 27, 1962 – December 26, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Janet Labossiere announces her passing on December 26th, 2024 at the age of 62.   Janet was surrounded by her loving family when she lost her battle to cancer having been diagnosed less than a year ago.  Born on June 27th, 1962 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Janet’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family where her infectious laugh always brought  smiles and joy to everyone around her.  She never missed a family dinner or celebration even if she didn’t feel up to it.

Janet’s family was extremely important to her.  In the past year, they attended every medical appointment, chemo treatment and were at her bedside around the clock so she never felt alone. The greatest pride and joy of her life were her children. She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Labossiere, her son Jesse Hartley (Erica T) and her father, who she loved dearly,  Denis Labossiere (Kathy).  Also left to mourn her passing are siblings Marc Labossiere (Therese), Phil Labossiere and Deane Fran (Manny).  She will also be dearly missed by her nephews and niece, Dustin Fran (Olivia), Julien Labossiere (Courtney), Stephan Labossiere (Erica), Adrian Fran (Lauren) and Danica Fran.  Janet is pre-deceased by her mother Monique Labossiere [nee Lapointe] who came to her shortly before her passing.

Janet was raised in Calgary, Alberta where she attended Father Lacombe High School.  Following the birth of her son Jesse, she decide to move closer to family and relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1998.  Janet worked incredibly hard all of her life as a single mom to provide for her 2 children.  She worked  for various companies through her life and finished her working career at Canada Life from 2013 to 2024.  Janet was so happy to retire in 2024 and very proud of her financial accomplishments.  It breaks our hearts that she did not live longer to enjoy her golden years, and more family trips which she loved so much.

Thank you to the doctors and nurses at St Boniface Emergency, Department 6E and the Palliative Care Unit.  A special thanks to Dr Anthony Battad for taking such wonderful care of Janet and her family with such compassion and humanity that we are eternally grateful for.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 603 Wellington Cres (Unitarian Facility).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Janet's memory to the Never Alone Cancer Foundation.

Janet’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I knew Janet from High School. We were friends but lost contact afterwards. She definitely had a notable laugh, contagious, just like her smile. I never had the pleasure of meeting her children, but do remember her Mom & Dad. A wonderful family, so know surprise she created the same for herself and her children.

My condolences to all of the family.

RIP Janet 🤍

Janet and her entire family are like second family to us. She will be so missed by all but she has peace knowing how close her family is and how much they will help each other through this. She will always be remembered for that giggle of hers and her amazing smile that lit up the room she was in. Jesse and Tamara your mom was (and still is) one of a kind. We are here for all of you at anytime. With sincere love from the Carriere's ❤️💕🙏🏻

Janet was my cousin, younger by a year or so. We were lucky enough to share a name. It is impossible to think of Janet and not think of her smiling eyes, just like her Mom's were , her smile and her infectious laugh. Janet was so kind, so positive and so appreciative of everyone around her , her devotion To and love of family along with her pride in her children was evident with every conversation. She faced this past year with courage and strength, above all with grace. She was hopeful but accepting.... she led by example. Grateful for our cousins weekends , our family reunion last spring and our many chats over the last year. A heartbreaking loss , way too soon.

I worked with Janet at RANA care group for many years. I always called her J Lo and she would laugh 😂

we put in a special air conditioner in her office as she was to hot. We called it a meat locker as it was always so cold 🥶 in there! Will miss her. such a kind lady that loved her family so much. 💕

I first met Janet in 1998, picking up rolls of carpet at Buckwold. She always got a kick out of my green & purple work van. A few years later we ended up working together & she remembered me right away. Janet was the kindest person to everyone. Condolences Tamara, Jesse & family. I often think of Janet & the impactful positivity she brought upon those around her.

I was fortunate to spend some of my teenage years knowing Janet growing up in Calgary. I remember that smile so well and her giggle and her sausage roll bangs. I remember the caring person she was and how she looked out for her siblings. She loved her family. I remember more than a few Friday nights at her house while she babysat. Such a sweet soul.

My condolences to all Janet's family and friends.

My love and condolence to all the family in this time of sadness and grieving. Oh how I had hoped to make it to Winnipeg and get another visit in with Janet. I so treasure the last time we sat together and giggled at the women's retreat. it is so heartbreaking that there will be no more opportunities to enjoy Janet's warmth and laughter. Keeping all the family in my prayers and in my heart!

lots of love

We grew up in separate provinces but would see each other when our families managed to reunite somewhere. In the summer of our 14/15 year Janet and I really hit it off and we started a letter writing habit that lasted a number of years. I will always remember Janet's laughter and her kindness.

I am struggling to put into words what I am feeling. I've known Janet for 40+ years. She was always optimistic and her laugh was contagious. Even after her cancer diagnosis she remained positive and I knew she would fight this disease with everything within her. My heart breaks for Tamara, Jesse and the entire Labossiere family. Find comfort knowing she is no longer suffering

I've known Janet for about 45 years. Terry and I were at the hospital when Tamara was born. I remember many a card game with Monique when Janet was pregnant. Funny it doesn't seem that long ago.

Janet was alway our designated driver, she'd pile six people in her car and drive us home, never complaining, always laughing. I could probably count on one hand Janet getting mad, she just never did.

We went to many parties and bars and would dance up a storm. I am sure glad we kept in contact through all the years.

Janet I'm going to miss you my friend, thank-you for your friendship, it has been an honor to call you my friend.

My heart goes out to Tamara and Jesse and the rest of the Labossiere family.

Janet and I were friends for 10 years. She was my buddy from the start of my training. We spent lunches together at the office and she always had a smile and a laugh. She was immensely proud of her daughter and son, as well as all her family. I will miss our chats, FB messages and visits.

How do you sum up a lifetime of joy and memories in a few sentences? We sang, danced, we accordioned (okay, that was just you 🤣), we made up games, got into small amounts of trouble, and partied like it was 1988. As we got older, we saw each other less but the love was and will always be there. I am blessed with the plethora of warm memories to comfort me when missing you feels unbearable.. 🙏🏼💔😢

By the way, our parents were horrible photographers, but we were cute anyway.

Janet, so many memories we had together, from school, to parties to you having your kids. I still remember like yesterday Joan and I at the hospital with you when Tamara was born.

You will always have a special place in my heart. Your kindness, your laughter and your willingness to be there for me. Even when we ended up provinces apart.

I will miss our conversations and good times we shared.

Thank you for being the wonderful friend you were and I will really miss you.

it's hard to say good bye so I will just say see you later.

Janet was an amazingly simple complicated woman. Her naieve giggle, and pure innocence made her incredibly lovable. She was loyal to a fault, and lived life as uncomplicated as possible. She stayed naive all her life, having faith in everyone she touched. I shed a tear but also where a smile of her memory, im happy that shes playing bingo with her mother
