LINDA FAYE LAHAM

Linda Laham, the beloved wife of Roy, passed away at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 69 years.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Roy Laham; daughter Kathy Laham; son Danny Laham; grandchildren Rylee and Sydney Harvey; sisters Sharon (Bill) Buffie and Melrose (Terry) Mcintosh; and nephews Doug Buffie, Glen and Sean Mcintosh.

Linda was predeceased by her parents, Owen and Joyce Collins, and brother, Larry Collins.

Linda Laham

Linda was born January 21st, 1949 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a child, she grew up in the Elmwood area and spent most of her time during the summer at Clear Lake. She also enjoyed going to the family farm as well. In her teens, they moved to Windsor Park where she attended Windsor Park Collegiate.

Fresh out of highschool, Linda got her first job working in the Southdale Strip Mall. Later on, after some years of working there, she met her husband-to-be, Roy Laham. They were officially married on July 11th, 1970.

The following year, they welcomed into the world their first born, Katherine Lynn. And soon after, their second and final child was born, Daniel Richard. During the early years of her children’s lives, Linda stayed at home taking care of them until they went to school full-time.

​

In 1978, Linda and Roy started what would become their family company, Laham Distributors Inc. For the next 10 years, Roy and Linda owned a multitude of businesses, including indoor flea markets and hotdog carts, that kept them quite busy. In 1989, the Forks Market became the home of Mini Donut Factory. Following that, they opened Danny’s All-Day Breakfast and the Chicken Express where Linda managed all three stands. By 1992, Laham Distributors Inc. had grown enough to open the Southgate Restaurant in Old St. Vital, where Linda had managed the kitchen.

In 2004, Linda finally decided to hang up the apron, however Roy continued the businesses until sold. Presently, the last businesses left are the Mini Donut Factory, Iceland Skates and Survival Appliance Products.

Linda’s favourite genre of music would have to be the doo-wop days, the good old 50’s and 60’s. Anything from the Temptations to Sam Cooke, Linda thoroughly enjoyed and could be seen dancing along if you looked at the right moment. Some tv shows that Linda enjoyed were Paranormal Witness, Three’s Company, The Golden Girls, anything on the animal channel and Little House on the Prairie.

Linda had a green thumb when it came to gardening, yard work and landscaping. She would plant flowers with her granddaughters every summer. Linda also loved decorating her home for any occasion, painting the walls and moving around furniture. She would move the furniture around every 6 months for a change of scenery. On a good day,

Linda could be found at the shopping mall, visiting her favourite stores, Bath and Body Works and The Body Shop, indulging in lunches with her granddaughters or simply walking around. She also enjoyed going to Michaels, the craft store to buy colourful bundles of yarn to make goodies for her grandchildren. Crocheting, knitting and needlepointing were her favourite past-times. When she wasn’t going to garage sales with her grandchildren, she could definetly be found at the casino with her husband, where they were each others’ good luck charms. Her favourite casino to visit was Club Regent.

Linda was a very kind hearted soul. She loved to share stories and make jokes. She was always worrying about our wellbeing, she thought about everybody else first, and worried about herself last. She was very selfless and wholesome. A deeply loving, caring person. Linda will be greatly missed by her surviving family and we all cannot wait until we can meet with her again.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church).
