Linda was born December 9th 1957 at the Fisher Branch Hospital and grew up in Hodgson MB till the age of 11. Then the family moved to Charleswood. These were Linda’s formative years of new friendships and experiences that would shape her future.
Linda’s first big adventure was going to Europe when she was seventeen with her friend Kathleen and travelling the continent of Europe and areas around. Her next great adventure was getting married and bringing three wonderful boys into this world. During the 1999 Pan-am Games in Winnipeg while volunteering Linda met her future husband Ken and new daughters to be Aimee and Danielle. Linda traveled to many places in the Caribbean area, Hawaii and around Canada. Her last great adventure was very special to her. It was a trip to Vancouver Island with granddaughter Tessa.
As Linda was growing up, she started to explore her heritage as a woman of Indigenous decent. This became a life long journey of joys and sorrows. Linda worked at the Health Science Center as a unit clerk for over 20 years. Her focus during this time was starting to take courses in Research, Life Skills and other Indigenous studies. Linda worked with many Grassroot Indigenous and mainstream groups. She became a Life Skills coach – Research Assistant – Interviewer in the Residential School Truth and Reconciliation Commission and with the National Inquiry into the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Co-Presenter to many Northern Nation Indigenous women on teachings, Life Skills and Healing. Linda found this to be a very Spiritual and satisfying part of her life.
Linda found the Spiritual path of being an Indigenous woman a very important part of her life. She wanted to experience and learn as much of the Creators teachings as she could. She loved to participate and experience the ceremonies of her culture. She passed these teachings experiences on to her children and grandkids and family for their cultural awareness. She wanted them to be proud of their Indigenous heritage as she was. The seeds have been planted and she was able to see the fruit start to grow. It made her heart sing with the drums. Linda’s sprit name was Little Dirt Woman and she is of the Bear Clan
Linda’s most important part of her life was her Family and Friends. Her Loving Husband, Mom and Dad, Sisters, Brothers, Children, Grandkids, Extended family and her Best Friends. Family was her passion and love. She was the Mother Bear of her family. Linda’s greatest love and passion became her Grandkids all ten of them. Her little Mini Clan. Her heart sang with every interaction and visit. No matter how down she was or sick they gave her Love’s energy from head to toe.
Lindy, we miss you so much. You have meant so much to your loving family. Our hearts will always have you in them. Your smile will all brighten our days when we need it to. Your words will come to us when our path becomes rocky and difficult.
Linda, you have planted your seed in our hearts and this will be passed down and planted in the hearts of our next family generations to come. Your love will grow.
