David Land

DAVID WILLIAM LAND
September 13, 1963 – June 3, 2025
It is with heartbreak and disbelief that I announce the unexpected passing of David Land on June 3, 2025 at the age of 61.
He was predeceased by his father, James; mother, Yvonne; grandmother, Margaret; brother, Ryan and his kitty, Teddy. He is survived by his spouse of over 35 years, Karen; his kitty, Marvin; brothers, Terry and Joel; sister-in-law, Diane and many nieces and nephews.
David was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 13, 1963. Although he spent most of his life living here, he considered himself a “small-town boy” and preferred that lifestyle. He lived in various small towns during his teens and early twenties, with one of them being Carman, Manitoba, where his heart and wonderful memories still remain.
David was a huge hockey fan, specifically of the Winnipeg Jets. When they left, he followed the Montreal Canadiens as if they were his own and changed his loyalty back to the Jets when they returned. He knew the importance of supporting your home team and had no patience for anyone following another province's team when your province had one. He joked that you can’t trust someone like that because they have no integrity.
He was passionate about reading, learning about personal finance, natural health, exercise and weightlifting. He was physically strong, even without the benefit of weightlifting. We saw this when helping his mother-in-law move. With no effort, he carried half of a sectional sofa on his shoulders down a long hallway. All our jaws were on the floor. I was so proud of my strongman! David was intent on learning to play the guitar and had finally taken lessons a while back, which he would have continued in the future, given the chance. This would have gone hand in hand with his ability to carry a tune, thanks to his strong, smooth singing voice; he only needed to find his own style.
David’s communication skills were effortless. So often I witnessed him having a difficult conversation with a government agency, utility company or whomever, where the results ended up in his favour. This was due to his calm and gentle way of speaking and instinct about people and what made them think the way they think and do the things they do. He possessed wisdom about people and could connect with them and help them connect with one another. He should have been a counsellor or negotiator. He would have been brilliant at it. David wanted desperately to do something big to help people and society. I told him he did this by how he touched people’s lives daily. He made more of a difference than he knew. I wish he could have seen this.
His sense of humour was jovial, goofy, animated and creative, and was his own and unlike anyone else in his family. Watching a comedy movie or show with David was something you wanted to do, and if he found it hilarious, you were in for a real treat. His laugh and behaviour could be so intense and energetic that he was way more entertaining than the show itself.
David,
You were my whole world and you meant everything to me. Looking back on the years we had together, I see that God bringing you into my life was the biggest blessing he could have given me, for so many reasons. I see the many decisions you made and things you did were to provide for me and my comfort out of your love for me. I love you even more for that. I also see, David, that we loved each other unconditionally. Whatever years God gives me on this planet, it’s unthinkable that it will be without you!! But knowing that your heart was for Jesus means you are now with God. That gives me great comfort. I’ll always love and miss you so much, and Marvin misses those long and soothing chin rubs you used to give him.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date.
David’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I knew David while attending Carman Collegiate as we were born in the same year. We also lived in the same complex beside the elementary school. My family resided on the main floor while David and his family were on the top floor of the duplex. So sorry to hear this sad news.R.I.P. David.
