LAWRENCE (LARRY) LANGE

October 5, 1936 - December 28, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry (Smiley) on December 28, 2023, with his family by his side at the age of 87.

Left to mourn Larry's passing is his wife, Barbara; children, Shelley (Rick), Jason (Lori), and Todd (Lisa); stepdaughters, Sheryl (Jeff) and Lisa (Dale); grandchildren, Cole (Janeen), Brandon (Laura), Ryan (Kiley), Gillian, Danika, Matthew, and Sabastian; great-granddaughter Azalea; as well as brothers Ken (Marilyn) and Art. He was predeceased by his parents Adolf and Lydia; brothers Edward and Ron; sister Alice; and sisters-in-law, Marjorie, Bernice, and Agnes.

Larry grew up on the family farm in Navin, Manitoba. He was an honest, hardworking, and caring man. He raised his three children and as well, for several years, his sister’s two daughters. They have special memories of camping holidays at the lake, Saturday adventures, and his cooking.

Larry spent 39 years as a CN employee in the Transcona Shops where he earned the nickname “Smiley”. After retirement he and his wife Barbara travelled across Canada by train and RV, and holidayed in Europe, Mexico, and Cuba. Larry loved to putter in his backyard and on the riverbank.

As per Larry's, request, cremation has taken place, and a service will follow by invitation.

I met Larry and the wonderful Lange family at Navin in 1953. Imagine 5 boys nearby, after my family of 6 sisters. As childhood friends, we rode our bikes all over, constantly, often to Transcona and back where  we purchased a brick of ice cream and pop for a picnic on the way home .We frequented the Winnipeg Roller Rink and when Larry got his first car, drive-in movies became the norm for our group. Larry was always game for adventure, happy, pleasant and a pleasure to be with. I treasure those many memories. My sympathy to the family. Bob Harris, friend.
