GERARD (GERRY) LANGILL

With his wife and sons by his side, Gerry passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda and his sons David and Christopher.

A special thank you to Dr. Justin Ling for his excellent care over the course of Gerry’s illness.

Thank you to the WRHA Palliative Care Program for giving Gerry the opportunity to remain at home for a longer period of time.

We would also like to thank the caring staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful & attentive care they gave to our husband & father.

A special thank you to Dr. Tim Hiebert for helping us navigate Gerry’s final hours.

Gerry was predeceased by his father Eddie, mother Noella, father-in-law Arthur Lavoie, mother-in-law Cecile Lavoie, and brother-in-law Guy Soulodre.

He will be sadly missed by his sister Doris Soulodre; in-laws Randy & Janet Burkett; nieces Jacqueline Vandal, Suzanne Soulodre (Paul), Christine Hill (Steve), & nephew Steven Labelle as well as various cousins & close friends.

After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Master of Science Degree in Chemistry, he pursued a career in industrial water treatment working in Montreal, Edmonton & Calgary as well as traveling to the US in an upper management capacity. He especially enjoyed his time working with the staff of Dearborn Chemical at the Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta office.

Upon his retirement he moved back to Manitoba to be closer to family & friends. Moving into Vic Wyatt House gave him an opportunity to pursue his love of golf & woodworking as well as making many new friends. He also enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Albert Beach as well as winters in Arizona.

In the summer of 2020, he was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Although the diagnosis was terminal, he was able to continue to live a fairly normal life, still being able to cut the grass and do other chores until the fall of 2024. He maintained a positive outlook while living with his disease. He enjoyed the company of his wife, sons, relatives & close friends.

In the fall of 2025, he was able to spend time visiting with niece Christine & her husband Steve at the cottage. Christmas 2025 was a time spent with his family & nephew Steven.

In the final months of his illness, he enjoyed visiting with sister Doris & niece Suzanne, brother-in-law & sister-in-law Randy & Janet, cousins Gerry & Julia Berube as well as friends Glen & Abbie Warren, Brian & Joey Bernes and Dan & Lorraine Janssens.

Gerry was dearly loved by his wife and sons. He will be missed.

A private gathering will take place at a later date.
