John LaPlante

JEAN PIERRE LAPLANTE
December 1, 1948 - October 30, 2024
Also known as John, Dad, Papa, Papa John,
and “never late for dinner”
John was well known for his love of the “Classics”:
Classic Rock
Classic Cars
Classic “Dad Jokes”
And straight up love of The Lord.
A lifelong and accomplished musician, his passion for playing his Martin and 335 Gibson to find “that sound I hear in my head” was a gift to many.
John was kind, classy, smart, humorous and courageous in his life and he received in gratitude everything that came his way. He never hid his true nature and unwaveringly spoke his mind to any and all. As one friend pointed out, John lived by the 4 F’s: Faith, Family, Friends and Funny!
He joins his twin brother Paul, older siblings Louis and Theresa, and parents Gerald and Otelia.
John will be missed by his loving wife Vivienne; brother-in-law Larry; his youngest brother Dan; and twin sisters, Annette and Jannette; children: Benita, Carrie, Colleen and Aidan; nine grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews. He leaves fond memories to many friends, bands, and family across Canada, from his beloved British Columbia to the Maritimes, and to his friend in Louisiana.
Many thanks to Cancer Care Manitoba and the Palliative team for the amazing care and support to both John and his family through his journey at home and in various hospitals in the city, for a variety of treatments. He was surrounded by many special doctors, nurses and support staff over time.
John’s unabashed love of music, people, technology, space, astronomy, history, sarcasm and irony will be missed. Au Revoir Jean Pierre! May you rest now in peace.

John’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Jean Pierre and I were classmates in 1964 - Biology 91! We were 16 years old. As we became better aquainted I learned what a kind, respectful, funny, and yes, classy guy he was. In class he was often in the centre of some sort of mischief! And always........the music underscored everything! We lost touch over the years, but when we became reaquainted, I learned how those early traits continued and that he had developed into the kind of human being described here. His sense of humor, his loving nature, his unbelievable optimism never left him. I feel so blessed for having known him then.......and more recently.
Rest in peace, Jean Pierre. Your legacy lives on.

Thanks for the laughs and many 'musical moments' playing with 97North and with Eric and Viv at Christ our Saviour parish. What's it like being in a place you don't even have to tune your guitar anymore?
Till me meet again my friend,
Chris

How does one sum up the life of an on earth living Saint .... John will definitely be in God s band playing with his many musician heroes. John s spirit was in heaven even while he was on earth. He walked his faith and that rubbed off on people. Ralph Waldo Emerson quote of success,, although quite long, - the one line that is so meaningful is this ,,, To know that one life has breathed easier, because YOU have lived ... is SUCCESS ....
How many lives other than MINE has John influenced through his earthly journey ... - simple - LOTS
Love ya man ... See you soon ...
Larry

One of the kindest men I've ever met. There's too much to say, so I'll leave it at that. Until we meet again, John, peace.
