ARVO OLAVI LASPA

March 14, 1926 - December 6, 2018

Our loving husband and father passed away peacefully, after a short illness, on December 6, 2018 at the age of 92 years.

Arvo was born in Nipigon, Ontario in 1926, though his parents and brother had immigrated a few years earlier from Veteli, Finland.  He was proud of his Finnish heritage and loved to reminisce about visits with extended family in Nipigon, Thunder Bay and Finland.  He moved to Saskatoon at a young age to work as an accountant at Silverwood Dairy, where he met Margaret Brewer.  He was smitten with the girl from Saskatchewan and they were soon married and starting a family in Regina.  He joined Sherwood Co-op in Regina, where they lived a number of years and made numerous friends through their interest in square dancing and travel.  He also worked as an Accountant in Co-op stores in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and finally Winnipeg.  He then joined Grace Hospital where he retired as their senior financial executive in 1986.

Arvo was highly respected by anyone who knew him for his gentle manner, kindness, patience, and subtle intelligence.  Once you knew him a little better, you might also have encountered his quiet feistiness.  He was proud of his family and loved family get-togethers as he watched his family grow. He had three grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud of.

Arvo is survived by loving wife, of 67 years, Margaret; sons Gary (Joan) and Dan; grandchildren Mark (Jennifer), Michelle (Ryan) and Jill; and great-grandchildren Philip, Everett and Harlow.  He was predeceased by his mother Ellen; father Vilho; and brother Martin.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 at 400 Rouge Road (Messiah Lutheran Church). A reception will follow the service.
