It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kay Laurie on March 9, 2026, at West Park Manor, surrounded by the love and presence of her family.

Kay was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Kathleen (Riordan) Mots; her husband, Gordon (1988); her sons, Kenneth (1992) and Gordon (2017); two grandsons; one great-grandson; and all six of her siblings.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her son Douglas (Marian), her daughter Cathy Larocque (Jim), and her daughter-in-law Claudette. Kay leaves behind a rich legacy of 11 very lucky grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren, along with many cherished nieces and nephews across Canada, the United States, and Australia.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Kay remained a lifelong resident of the city she loved. She spent over 45 dedicated years as the accountant and office manager at Acme Bedding and Felt, continuing her accounting work well into retirement. A woman committed to serving others, she also spent many years volunteering at CPL on Poseidon Care Home.

Above all else, family was the cornerstone of Kay’s life. "Mom" and "Granny" created endless warmth in her home, hosting frequent large family dinners and holiday gatherings filled with her legendary cooking, favorite foods, and delicious desserts. Post-dinner conversations naturally flowed into spirited games of 4-Tens, Scat, cribbage, or pool. No visit to Granny’s was complete without a treat: she always kept small boxes of Smarties on hand for the little ones and cookies for the bigger kids. Later in life, when she was no longer driving, she would carefully save her ice cream sandwiches so she’d always have something special to share with visiting children.

In her later years, Kay cherished being the guest of honor at her family’s celebrations. She shared countless long chats with Cathy and Douglas, reminiscing and planning home projects; enjoyed Sunday mornings over coffee, muffins, and nail dates with her granddaughter Mandy; and looked forward to lively afternoons testing her luck at the casino with Claudette. Visits with her granddaughter Michelle’s family in Grunthal or at the St. Malo campground brought her immense joy as she delighted in the antics of the youngest generations.

Kay will forever be remembered for her thoughtfulness, unconditional love, sharp mind, precise attention to detail, radiant smile, and unwavering devotion and love to her family.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Kingsbury Medical Centre, Dr. Buschell, and staff members Krystal and Lisa for their compassionate care.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Kay’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
