RYAN ANTHONY LEITER

June 20, 1983 - November 29, 2021

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we share the sudden passing of Ryan Anthony Leiter on November 29, 2021.

He is survived by his wife Nikki and their two sons, Maxwell and Merrick; his parents Susan and Bob Willemsen; siblings Megan (Jared), Stephanie, Bobby (Kaitlyn); his parents Bruce and Judy Leiter; siblings Brendan (Katja) and Colton (Hannah); mother-in-law Susan Chenier; brothers-in-law David (Hannah) and Marc.

Born June 20, 1983, in Edmonton, Alberta, Ryan was the only child to Susan and Bruce and

one-of-a-kind. As his family grew, Ryan was fortunate enough to have two families who loved him more than anything before starting a family of his own.

Ryan, or “Leits” as many friends referred to him, was an amazing father, husband, son, brother, and friend. Whether it was his competitive spirit with golf or poker or his love for the greats like Tiger Woods, he would never hesitate to share his passions with everyone around him. He was honest, smart, and hilarious which usually resulted in many laughs and “teachable moments”. He had many soundtracks to his life and made sure he was up to date on his random sports knowledge, which was always impressive to hear. He had a huge heart and always made the people around him feel that love, especially his biggest loves, Maxwell and Merrick.

Married to Nikki in 2009, and together since 2003, they were blessed with the most precious gifts anyone could ask for, Maxwell and Merrick. Maxwell is already showing that he has his father’s intelligence and strong memory. Merrick is funny and upbeat which his mother would say comes from her, but secretly knows it’s from his dad. Ryan was a devoted father who loved his boys more than anything.

Ryan will forever be missed by his family, many friends, Staples family, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. This loss is shared by all of us.

To honour his life and memory, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 11, at Greendell Community Centre (75 Woodlawn Avenue) at 3:00 pm. Contact steph@wedlocal.ca for a link to attend virtually.

Join us as we come together during the hard times to remember the good times. . In the meantime, Ryan’s family kindly requests that his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

A trust will be set-up for Maxwell and Merrick in the new year. Memorial donations in honour of Ryan will be gratefully accepted.

Condolences to Ryan's family and loved ones as they live with this incredible loss.  I grew up in the same neighborhood as Ryan and worked with him at one of my first jobs.  It brought back memories to see the pictures of him as a child and teenager.  Though I didn't know him well, he left such a kindhearted impression. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.

I think I speak for many when I say that Ryan was a stand up man with a deep love for his family. When I started at Staples, Ryan and I chatted at great lengths about our families. The complete adoration he had for his sons was beautiful. Ryan was such a positive person, every greeting I got started with “Hello, my friend” and I will miss not hearing that again. My sympathies to all whose lives he touched.

I was shocked to hear the terrible news of Ryan's passing from his friend Matt Becker - I worked with Matt & Ryan for a number of years - Ryan was an exceptional employee who took on responsibility and streamlined plans and procedures that greatly improved store operations - he was always a hard working and intelligent young man and it is just devastating to hear of his passing - the 2 Terrys wish that Ryan's family has the strength to carry on in these difficult times - our thoughts are with you Terry Forbes & Terry Hein
