PEDRO CESAR LEPE MAZARIEGOS

August 20, 1981 - July 14, 2022

With great sadness the family announces the tragic passing of Pedro on July 14, 2022 at the age of 40.

Left to shed many tears and cherish fond memories are his son Javier Atlas Lepe Johnson, former spouse Kera Johnson, mother Sara Lepe, siblings Hugo Lepe (Rosario), Olga Marianna Lepe (Tom) and Mario Lepe along with their children Marianna (Dan), Otto, Cristina (Jason), Mario, Diego and Thalia. As well, Pedro's "second family" - the Clarks, countless dear family members in Guatemala including Mamá Lulu (Coni), Tia Paquita, cousins Shirley, Lizardo, Mario, Mauro and Francisco, and many many of Pedro's cherished friends and chosen family in Winnipeg and Guatemala. Pedro was predeceased by his father Hugo Lepe and sister Ana Cristina.

Pedro was born in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and that is where he spent his early childhood. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 13 and settled in to Fort Garry. Not speaking a word of English he entered Grade 8 at General Byng School and began his journey of learning a new language, culture and way of life making many friends along the way. In four short years Pedro graduated from Vincent Massey Collegiate fully bilingual and getting a hang of causing trouble.

He had many interests and talents that lead him onto a variety of possible career paths from construction to cooking and even a short stint training as an EMT. However, it was when he had the opportunity to do electrical work that he had found his niche. His sense of adventure and impatience took him to the north where he did his electrical apprenticeship in Baffin Island and on the Bipole III project near Gillam, Manitoba. Pedro graduated from Red River College and received his journeyman certification in March 2018.

With all the experiences Pedro had in his life nothing compared to the day his son Javier was born. The greatest joy in his life. Though he never got enough time to spend with his little guy because of life and all its challenges; he never stopped expressing his enduring love for him.

Pedro, among other things, was charismatic, kind, funny, intelligent and complex. He loved adventure and was always ready for a good time. He touched so many hearts. His infectious laugh and smile are unforgettable.

Family and friends, near and far, please keep with you and cherish the memories shared with the beautiful and amazing soul we called Pedro.

May his light forever be remembered.

"In the books of the universe, I can write that our souls have danced.”

 "SIEMPRE LEPE"

A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday August 11, 2022 at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church). All are welcome.

If you have a copy of a favorite photo with Pedro you would like to display and gift to Javier, please bring to the celebration. Afterward, friends and family are welcome to join us at Cafe 22 Corydon for a drink in honor of Pedro.

After Pam and I permanently  moved to Winnipeg (and well before that), Pedro and I bonded and became friends thanks to our shared experience as a newcomer to Canada from Latin America. From playing indoor and outdoor soccer together, watching movies in Spanish, or going to Mexican/Central American restaurants to try to get a taste of “back home” (our last time doing this was BMC tacos with both our sons Javier and Mateo when they were little). I will always remember his kindness and contagious laugh. On behalf of the Saldivar family, we are truly sorry for your loss and send love to Kera, Javier and Pedro’s family.

Pedro Lepe RIP. Pedro inspired in me my first lust for travel - it was his very nature that inspired me to travel to Gautemala on my own to find a road less traveled - a road with which Pedro was intimate. The people of Gautemala embraced me as one of their own, just as Pedro did, in friendship and in life. I miss your warmth and sense of adventure but feeling your presence right here taking steps into the eternal future. Love you man 👨 ❤️

My heart aches for all you.  Please accept our sincere condolences on Pedro's passing.  Pedro was my son Brent's friend - they attended Vincent Massey and worked at Tim Horton's together.  They drove around in Pedro's brother's van, dressed up for Hallowe'en parties - Pedro was always happy, polite, charismatic and easy to talk with - always positive.  When Brent passed away, Pedro and some others stayed in touch with us, coming for dinner, sending cards, bringing flowers.  That is not easy.  He provided much support to our family and was always hopeful.  I had not seen him in a long time but we always spoke of him.  The very last time I spoke with Pedro, he had goals and aspirations - he was so in love with Kera and so proud of his son, Javier.  Pedro will always be in our heart and he will not be forgotten.  May you all feel God's peace.

The Andrews Family are so very sorry for your loss. We have known Pedro since Grade 7. The group of boys at General Byng were so close and such good friends!  Pedro & Kera even spent a Christmas Eve with us!  Our son Michael kept in touch with Pedro over the years. Pedro was always a bright light and will forever be remembered in our hearts!  We are so very sorry!
