DOREEN LINDA LETEXIER

(née LAROCQUE)

May 21, 1952 - March 5, 2022

With heavy hearts, after a long battle with illness, we announce that Doreen quickly and painlessly passed away on March 5, 2022 in the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 69 years.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Allen; children: Clayton and his wife Michon, and Lynette; grandchildren Madison, Brandon, Curtis and Greyson.  Also left to mourn her passing are siblings (and in-laws): Dennis (Carolyn), Alice (Don), Lorna (Vid), Cliff (Natasha), Darcy (Darlene); along with numerous nieces and nephews.  Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Reta; sisters Dawn and Wanda; and infant brother Joseph.

While Doreen lived most of her years in Fisher Branch, she did reside in other parts of Manitoba, including a brief stint in Norway House for work, some time in Selkirk for schooling and then in Winnipeg with Allen.  After retirement, they were able to spend a lot of her last years in Portage la Prairie, allowing them to devote much time to their grandsons, and helping Lynette in any way they could.

Mom always talked about how much she loved her work in the tax prep business, and spoke of the clients as if they were her friends.  She would often be heard bragging about how many generations of families she did taxes for, and she said it with a smile.

Back in her “younger” days Doreen spent many a warm fall day in the ditches and pastures of Hodgson and Fisherton, digging Seneca roots.  Packing a lunch of tea and bologna sandwiches, she was always looking for the next big root patch, where she hoped the garter snakes were not.

Doreen wasn’t a big traveller, only ever visiting Calgary on a semi-regular basis to see Clayton and his family, as the long drive was not her favourite.  She was ultimately convinced to do some smaller trips, once to Kenora, Ontario and then also to Deadwood, South Dakota.  In saying that, however, Doreen always dreamed of seeing Canada’s East Coast.  That dream became a reality on her 65th birthday, when she travelled by air to Halifax, Nova Scotia and also made the drive from there to Lunenberg and Peggy’s Cove.

Doreen was a proud Métis and always had plans to make it to Batoche, Saskatchewan for the Back to Batoche Days.  In July 2017, she was finally able to get there.  She could not get enough of the square dancing, jigging and fiddle music.  Her foot tapped and shoulders bopped along to the sound any time she heard it.

Doreen’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In Accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

Do not stand at a grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints of snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at a grave and weep,

I am not there. I did not die.

Sympathy & Prayers to the Letexier & Larocque Families.  I remember Doreen when visiting with The Letexier Girls; Doreen was a bit older but what a fun person to be around.  When visiting with the Letexier's Doreen would always make us LAUGH!  She had great stories to tell and that she did!  So sad to hear of her passing but so many great memories!

Beautiful memories for a beautiful woman.  I worked with Doreen for years doing income tax in Fisher Branch; very kind and understanding to everyone that came into the office.
