PIETRONELLA “ELLY” LETT

Pietronella (Woppenkamp) “Elly” Lett was born on January 29, 1953 in Mierlow, Holland. She came to Canada that same year with her family as they settled in the Red Deer area of Alberta. She often told a story of how she raised pigs on the family farm and eventually sold them to get a motorcycle and that gave her the first taste of freedom.

She trained as a health care aide and ward clerk in Edmonton during the 1970s. It was there she met her husband Doug and off they set on an adventure across Alberta wherever Scotiabank sent them. Their first son Eric was born in 1978 and Andrea followed in 1982. The 4 of them were a very tight unit and many adventures were had at Calloway Park, the Royal Tyrell Museum and a highlight was attending the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary together. In 1989, the Scotiabank adventures took them to Winnipeg where the family put down deep roots. Elly worked as a ward clerk at the Grace ICU for many years until medical needs prevented her from remaining in the workforce. She enjoyed watching her family grow and many family vacations were had such as regular trips to Lac La Biche, Singapore, Thailand, Italy and Cuba.

Though Elly passed away very quickly at Riverview Health Centre on September 6, she had fought breast cancer twice before and we had hoped for a little more time together before she passed. She is now reunited with her husband Doug who passed in 2021 who she missed dearly. She leaves behind her son Eric (Becky) Lett and her daughter Andrea (Quinn) Johnson and her three grandchildren: Sidney, Henry and Olivia. She’s predeceased by her parents Weitze, Johanna (Blauuw) and brother Fredrick. Cremation has taken place. Private family service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
