ALICE WINIFRED LINKLATER

March 10, 1929 - May 10, 2023

With heavy hearts, sadness and much love, we announce that Alice passed away on May 10, 2023 at home in Woodlands, Manitoba at the age of 94 years.

She leaves behind to carry on her legacy of her strength and loving care; children Eileen and David, Delores and Jim, Gerald and Rose, Edna, Linda and Benny, daughter-in-law Leslie (Ron), Lincoln and Brenda.

In addition to her immediate family Alice will be missed by her sister Jean; brother-in-law Dick; sister-in-law Shirley of England; as well as grand, great grand, great-great grand children, nieces, nephews and the many friends she made throughout her life.

Alice was predeceased by her husband William (Link) Linklater on December 7, 2022; sister Doris; brothers, Charlie, Jim, Gordon and Eric; as well as her father and mother, Son Ronald Sydorko.

Alice enjoyed her early years on the family farm in Glenella spending time with her six siblings. Her Father and brother Charlie enlisted in the army. Being the eldest at home with her mother and three young siblings, she had many chores to keep farm running. The work load became too much and she left school.

She married at the age of seventeen and had her first child two years later, starting her family. Due to nature of work the family moved around a lot, each child born in a different location and town through out Manitoba.

While living in Brandon, Alice went to work during evenings to help provide for her family. Later moving to Winnipeg and through out her years continued to work involved in the service/restaurant industry. With her pleasant and witty personality, she made many fond friends.

Alice met William March of 1971, they married and were blessed with the birth of their son Lincoln. She continued to work till 1996.

Grand children were a big part of her adventures and her new name – Gugs – was her honour badge. With each new person added to the family, another special birthday and occasion to cherish.

Family meant everything to her, and she made sure to attend family functions. When the opportunity to attend a special event arose. She enjoyed being a spectator – sporting events, dance recitals, graduations whatever the event, near or far.

Twenty-five years ago, they moved to the farm in Woodlands. During those years many very happy memories were made. Often, she said “Happiest Years of her Life.” She passed away at home, the place she loved!

Alice will be deeply missed. Her family will always remember her beautiful smile, her caring heart and her warm embrace. She will remain in their hearts and the love that they have for her will live in them forever.

Alice’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 28 2023 at Warren Hall (145 MacDonald Avenue, Warren, Manitoba).

April 4,2023 A happy day when I brought you back home from hospital. A shell of the woman you used to be. With in days the sparkle returned to your eyes. I saw you smile, I heard you laugh again. I heard the words "I love you everyday and again when I tucked you into bed every night, with a kiss on your forehead. These are precious memories I will have forever!
