DENNIS HARRISON LLOYD

May 6, 1938 - January 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dennis Harrison Lloyd at Riverview Health Centre – Palliative Care, on January 20, 2026.

Dennis was born in Winnipeg on May 6, 1938 to Fred and Ellen Lloyd. He grew up in the west end on Downing Street with his parents, sister, Julie (Cooper) and his aunties, uncles and cousins close by. Dennis attended Sargent Park and Principal Sparling School in his younger years, and graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. Throughout his school years Dennis was active in all sports. He excelled in track and field as a high jumper.

In 1952, Dennis walked Doreen (Thompson) home from a Grade 9 school dance, and this is where their lives together began. Dennis and Doreen married on September 30, 1960 and moved into their family home in the Deer Lodge Community area, where they began their family, with Lisa, Dave and Doug.

Dennis was a Firefighter who retired as Battalion Chief after 40 years of service. Dennis was active in the United Firefighters of Winnipeg – Local 867, as a member of the Executive and as President. His local union involvement led to him serving as a Canadian Trustee with the International Association of Firefighters and then transitioning to a Trustee Emeritus with the IAFF.

Connections and relationships with family, friends, community and colleagues were immensely important to Dennis.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ellen Lloyd; his in laws, Frank and Frances Thompson; and his sister Julie.

Dennis will be missed greatly by his loving wife of 65 years, Doreen; his children, Lisa, David and Doug (Kelly); who will keep his memory alive with his grandchildren, Ash (Bran), Taylor (Matt), Davis (Karina), Andrew, Jordan and Eden; and his great grandchildren, Autumn, Grace, Maicee, Jayden, Easton and Hunter.

Dennis was proud of the role that he played in beginning a pathway towards presumptive legislation for Firefighters who acquired cancer in the line of duty. Unfortunately, Dennis needed to access the benefits under this legislation during his cancer journey.

With the support of Dr. Russel Albak, Case Manager, Nancy Fiebelkorn and the entire PRIME team at Deer Lodge Centre over the past number of years, Dennis was able to remain in his home with Doreen until December 31, 2025 when the Palliative Care Team at Riverview Health Centre ushered him and supported his family to a peaceful end.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 6, 2026 at the Charleswood United Church located at 4820 Roblin Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, in memory of Dennis, to the PRIME Program at Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0L3; The Firefighters Burn Fund at PO Box 45001 RPO, Kildonan Place, Winnipeg Manitoba, R2C 3C7 or a charity of your choice.

Dennis was champion of firefighters. As an Officer, his first dutywas to ensure his men got home after every shift safely. He was so well respected. He represented the Winnipeg Firefghters as their union president for many years and fought for better wages, pensions and saftey. He was a true blue union man who would reach out to other unions if they needed a hand with an issue. He was a mentor to so many in both firefoghting and in the union. We will miss him .

My condolences, Doreen, on the loss of Dennis. Jim thought the world of him, and was so grateful for his hard work and many accomplishments on behalf of all firefighters. I know you will have many wonderful memories to help you through this difficult time. Take care.

Mere words could not appropriately convey my graditude for all the benefits Dennis Lloyd had fought so hard to give to me and the members of L867 UFFW. My condolences to Doreen and her family on the passing of this extraordinary man. RIP Dennis and thank you brother.

Dennis and Doreen were incredibly kind, compassionate and caring to our parents, The Scott's , who lived across the Street on Guildford..

I had the honor of babysitting their children many years ago.

I will always remember Dennis's smile and laugh..

Wishing the entire Lloyd family inner peace and calm.

Dennis will live on in our hearts.
