STEPHEN MICHAEL ANTHONY LOUIS

May 10, 1986 - May 14, 2021

Stephen Michael Anthony Louis passed away at home on May 14, 2021.

Stephen was a loving son to Nigel and Sandra; brother to Matthew (Kyla), Michelle and Taylor; uncle to Dante; and friend to all. Stephen was an alum of St Paul's High School (2004) and will be missed by his school brothers.

Stephen was an amazing man. He studied psychology with an initial plan of psychiatric nursing. Later he became interested in improving the world through his studies with a goal of working in cyber security. Stephen enjoyed being in nature; be it camping, exploring Manitoba or nearby provinces, canoeing, hiking, spending time at the old family cottage or travelling.

Stephen was a quiet, sensitive, kind hearted and compassionate soul; touching the lives of all who knew him. Even though he was quiet, the way he moved in life said a lot. He was always there when his family or friends needed him. Passing along what he learned in life to his little brother and sharing on life's little moments; helping his little brother tie a tie and letting him borrow his clothes. Much of Stephen's childhood was spent rebuilding his '68 Sports Fury with his brother, father and uncle; truly great conversations and bonding were had during these trips. He was fiercely loyal and protective of his family; always keeping a watchful eye on his little sister as they grew up and accepting of her many hugs.

Soccer was one of Stephen's first loves; he made many friends on and off the soccer field with his amazing heart, quiet confidence, loyalty and humour (as well as his stunning soccer tricks and quick feet!). He happily passed on his love of soccer to all; kicking the ball around a backyard with family and friends or teaching his nephew soccer skills. Stephen also grew up playing hockey and was happy to join his siblings on the road for a game of street hockey or at the rink for a game of shinny.

As he got older, you could find him in the kitchen with loved ones; happy to spend time together cooking (and eating) Caribbean food. Every summer, you could find Stephen with his sister at the movie theater watching the latest superhero summer blockbuster and joking around together (likely to the annoyance of the whole theater).

Stephen was so loving and is so deeply loved! He left us far too early and will be missed by all, kept alive in a special place in all of our hearts. All of us are better for knowing him and having him in our lives. Heaven has gained an amazing angel. Due to COVID-19, no public funeral services to occur. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for a donation to KidSport for all children to be able to find their love of sports and healthy outlet that Stephen found at a young age.

He is Gone

You can shed tears that he is gone

Or you can smile because he has lived

You can close your eyes and

pray that he will come back

Or you can open your eyes

and see all that he has left

Your heart can be empty

because you can’t see him

Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow

and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow

because of yesterday

You can remember him and only that he is gone

Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back

Or you can do what he would want: smile,

open your eyes, love and go on.

Gonna miss my traveling partner. You were truly loved. There isn't a time I won't think about you. His was calm, gentle and so caring. He loved preparing "fusion" food and was a great help around the kitchen.

Stephen, I was always impressed by your quiet sureness.  I hope you are at peace and can share some fun with your uncle John, who I'm sure was there to meet you.
