ERIC DANIEL LUSSIER

May 1, 1954 - November 10, 2023

Eric, you were loved and still you remain so very easy to love.

Eric died November 10th, 2023, at the Grace Hospice... and now, the rhythm of your heart keeps time in all those who loved you.

Eric was many things to many people. He was an accomplished musician, artistic director of Musik Barack Ensemble, and enjoyed the accomplishments of his students as much as his own, especially his nephews Aaron & Sean.

Not only a musician, his culinary skills were appreciated by many, and he delighted in exploring the world's foods. He also became a surrogate father to his niece Sarah, who often referred to him as 'her gay-gray dad'; a moniker he carried with pride.

About PRIDE; fifty years ago, society was in a very different place. Eric didn't set out to be courageous, but he chose to live his life authentically as is evidenced by his loving 20-year marriage to Chris.

He enjoyed travelling abroad and across Canada; but his best travel adventures were close by just walking his dog Finnegan.

Eric was predeceased by his parents Florence and Maurice. He leaves behind to celebrate his life, his husband Chris; siblings Claude (Therese), Mark (Eileen), and Jocelyn (Gordon); parents-in-law Joan & Ray; siblings-in-law Nancy (Jamie), James (January) and Christopher; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dearest friend Liz, and Joy.

Eric, thank you for the 50 years of friendship. Your compassion, generosity, and unlimited devotion to those close to you is a gift to us all. How lucky was I to have had the greatest friendship for so long.

Love you, Liz.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2pm on Saturday November 25, at St. Mary's Road United Church (613 St. Mary's Road).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eric's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Eric's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

It is very difficult to think of Eric being gone, so large was his presensce in all our lives.  I extend deepenst sympathy to you Chris.  Your loss is great, I along with many of Eric's friends am  so grateful to you for your love and support of Eric.  That love and support,  especially in  recent days  would have made his final days on earth so much more bearable.  He was very lucky to have found his mate, his husband.  I also extend my condolences to Eric's family, he held all of you in his heart always.   I personally, am grateful to Eric for the joy he brought to many of my days.  I learned the value of laughter from Eric and of course he did his best to teach me to appreciate music and  the value of pure entertainment.  Peace to you dear Eric, you will live on with us forever. Everyone will remember Eric as a Musician, Artistic Director, Teacher, Choir Director, and Organist. I simply remember him as a great friend. We met Eric about 45 years ago, before his first concert in Winnipeg. We had supper at the Moulin Rouge. At supper there was my wife Patti, Darlene and Larry.  Eric revealed his true character by gulping down two orders of oysters. We have all remained friends throughout the years. He impressed me right from the beginning.  Imagine knowing a famous musician and artistic director. He built Music Baroque Ensemble and I became his Roady (Stage Manager) for 25 years. He was inspirational and I loved being in his orbit. We had to build a stage for every concert. Hard work but he gave great parties afterworlds. Eric was a Bon Vivant. He loved to cook and entertain and I believe he really enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He was a wonderful teacher and he gave me and my family a love of music.  He gave my daughters music lessons that helped them with their careers. Eric is no longer with us but a part of him will live with all of us. We love you Eric and you will live in our hearts forever.

My deepest condolences to the family.  I have such wonderful memories of Eric when he was choir director and organist at St. Vital United Church.  He was a musical gift and such a lovable person.

Sincerest condolences to his whole family. We have many wonderful memories of Eric through our teenage years. We were honoured to have him participate in our wedding, providing his love and music and his friendship some 50 years ago.
