RICHARD (RICK) LUSSIER

November 7, 1952 – November 23, 2025

Richard Joseph Lussier passed away suddenly on November 23, 2025 at the age of 73 with his loving wife Stephanie, his brother Don and family at his side. Born on November 7, 1952 Rick lived a life defined by kindness, humour, and quiet dedication to the people and causes he cared about most.

Rick was dearly loved and will be dearly missed. He was predeceased by his parents, Ross and Mary Lussier (Kinahan). He is survived by his loving wife Stephanie Casey whose partnership and devotion were central to his life. He was also cherished by his sister-in-law, Joy Lussier beloved wife of his late brother Don and sister to Stephanie.

Rick was like a second father to the family’s daughters Stephanie (John), Claire, and Aimee Watt (Ryan). He took great pride and joy in their lives and accomplishments. Rick will also be remembered by his sisters-in-law Jane (Terry), Wendy and his brothers-in-law Stephen (Marion), Jamie (Evelyn) and many nieces and nephews on the Casey side of the family along with a wide circle of friends and colleagues.

Thorough his career Rick was known for his thoughtful leadership and commitment to community work, including his time with The Winnipeg Foundation where he served with distinction. He was the Director of Community Grants.

In retirement he embraced the simple pleasures he loved most- cooking (especially his famous pancakes), music, crosswords, fishing, boating, and sharing a well timed joke or pun. A big kid at heart he delighted in toy stores, wind up gadgets, and anything that could spark a smile. Rick’s favorite place was the cottage at Lac du Bonnet.

Above all he will be remembered as one of the good guys a patient, gentle soul who was easy going, rarely mad and always thoughtful. He was dearly loved and his warmth, humour and steady presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held May 25 at 1:30 PM at Fort Whyte Alive Buffalo Crossing at 2505 McGillivray Blvd.  Please note this is not Fort Whyte on McCreary Road. Flowers are gratefully declined. Any donations can be made to The Winnipeg Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Rick was one of my dearest friends . He defined what true friendship is. He was thoughtful, compassionate, supportive, reliable and so much fun to be with. He was always there for Terry, Leigh and I.

We have known each other for more than 40 years. He gave the speech at my wedding to Terry and many years later the eulogy at Terry's Celebration of Life.

He was an excellent cook and we shared many delicious meals together.

He was a wordsmith and enjoyed doing cross word puzzles. He would always complete them without referring to a dictionary or searching google for an answer. I once teased him that he could probably start doing them in pen.

He had an eclectic taste in music. The two of us would often share the names of new artists or songs that we discovered.

He enjoyed playing games at the lake especially when Leigh was with us. Great laughter could be heard as we played badminton, Sequence and Things in a Box to name a few.

Rick, I miss you terribly. I cherish the memories of our time together. I promise to always be there for Stephanie.

Love,

Gail

Dear Stephanie,

It was with great shock and sadnesss, I discovered Rick's obituary today. As his long-lost cousin, I remember Rick's kindness and good spirits, and have often wished we had stayed in touch.

Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss, much too soon, of the lovely and much loved man that we all benefitted from knowing.

Our hearts go out to Stephanie and family.

Rick will be so dearly missed, especially out at the cottage. The happy hours and the pontoon boat rides with Steph and Rick will not be the same without his jokes and conversation.

Rick will never be forgotten ...

Love, Hal and Lois Behlke
