MARIE DOROTHY MACDONALD

Marie passed away peacefully at the Maples Personal Care Home on August 12, 2026. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews, Joan, Bill, Cathie, Linda, Ian, Mark, Craig, Scott, Adair and Karina, and great-nieces, Denise and Kyla. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan. She was predeceased by her parents, Eva and Bill, her brothers Jim, Bob, Gerry, sister-in-laws Claire and Skip, and her niece Lisa.

Marie grew up in the West End and graduated from Gordon Bell. She lived on Woodhaven Boulevard for many years. She valued her independence, and later lived on her own. She babysat and worked in the offices of several businesses. She had excellent typing and steno skills. Marie received recognition for her service, volunteering in the office for 23 years at the Children’s Hospital.

Marie was a kind and gentle soul. She loved animals, especially cats and birds, swimming, and sports. She was an avid writer, who loved to record her thoughts and memories. She sent us many letters until recently. Marie had a good sense of humour and loved to laugh. She was known for her incredible memory, remembering the details of many of our lives. Some of her best holiday times were with her brother Bob and family in Seattle. Marie’s life had many challenges, and her strength and determination carried her through. She could be feisty, with a mind of her own, but underneath, she had a good heart. As she once said, “I had some unfortunate experiences, but I had to get on with it, so I did”. Donations may be made in her name to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Schizophrenia Society of Canada.
