Valerie MacDonald
VALERIE MACDONALD
January 14, 1956 – April 27, 2026
Sadly, after a somewhat lengthy stay in hospital, Valerie ended her life’s journey at Seven Oaks Hospital on April 27. She is now free from pain and mental delirium and in a much better place.
Valerie was predeceased by her parents, John and Nancy Blair; brothers, Robert and Gordon; her stillborn daughter Dani; in-laws, Norman and Eileen MacDonald and brother-in-law Ken. Valerie leaves to mourn her beloved soulmate of 47 years Brian, and loving daughter Staci; sister-in-law Sherry Blair, sister-in-law Heather (Craig) Kirby, brother-in-law Colin (Glenda) MacDonald. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Valerie graduated from high school and went to work for Turnbull & Turnbull as a benefits administrator. After Staci was born she was a stay at home mom. When Staci entered school, Valerie worked at the school lunch program. When Staci entered middle school, Valerie began work in retail at a fabric store. This was the ideal place for her as she was an accomplished sewer and she loved fabric. Valerie could never have enough fabric in the house and she soon became a fabriholic. Valerie passed her sewing knowledge on to Staci and now Staci loves fabric as much as her mother did.
When Valerie left high school she also volunteered as a Winnipeg Jets hostess in the WHA days. Her brother Rob was a member of the Jets booster club who happened to have an acquaintance named Brian who was also a member of the booster club. Rob introduced his sister to Brian. Rob was transferred to London, Ontario to continue his employment. Brian kept tabs on his pal Rob by frequently asking his sister how he was doing in Ontario. Unbeknownst to Brian and Valerie they soon fell deeply in love with each other and were soon married in the summer of 1979. They were happily in love for almost 47 years.
Brian and Staci would like to thank the health care teams at the Grace and Seven Oaks hospitals for their care and kindness towards Valerie. Valerie was also a patient at Kildonan Medical Center for over 40 years and we would like to thank the wonderful staff throughout the years for caring for Valerie. Valerie considered the staff as family and loved them all. In the last few years Valerie was in need of Home Care. She was introduced to four wonderful nurses (angels). These women made her life worth living again. Brian and Staci would like to thank Jenna, Dustin, Candice and Katlyn for the exceptional care provided to Valerie. Valerie looked forward to every visit with these wonderful nurses. She definitely considered them as family, and she loved them dearly.
In accordance with Valerie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
“I’ll love you forever
I’ll like you for always
As long as I’m living
My wife/mother you’ll be.”

My deepest condolences to Brian and Staci on the loss of my cousin Val. We went to Europe many years ago. My sister Joan and Val at one time were close as they were the same age.

Though we did not know Valerie personally we knew of her kind heart and generous spirit. Our hearts and thoughts go out to your family during this trying time.

Brian and Valerie were so much in love and she is going to be sadly missed. She had a wonderful sense of humour, even if it met her calling at 4:00am with the punchline of a joke that she had forgotten. Rest in peace Valerie.

As Staci's childhood friend, I stayed over at Valerie and Brian's house many times. Valerie was always very welcoming and kind, greeting me with a smile and asking if I needed anything. She always cared about my safety getting home. She will be sorely missed.

I never got to know Valerie as deeply as I wish I could have. Every time I visited she was always happy to see me. And I will never be out of fun shirts to wear bc she knew I loved sharks and dinosaurs and supplied me with many. I still have the old wolf shirt of hers that she sent me one year with a heartfelt letter that I still have saved in a box. She will be greatly missed.

Auntie Valerie will definitely be missed! Her and Uncle Brian were always fun to talk with on the phone and life will be a little less interesting moving forward. Our conversations were often light, sometimes they were about athletes like Rob Gronkowski (Valerie's favourite) and other times we found joy in joking around about topics that annoyed one another.
Thinking about these conversations brings a smile to my face, and I am going to miss them!
My condolences to Uncle Brian and Staci during this incredibly difficult time, along with everyone of you who knew and loved Auntie Valerie. May you be comforted!
