SOPHIA MACFADYEN

(née KEHLER)

January 18, 1941 – December 17, 2024

It is with deep sadness that the family of Sophia MacFadyen (née Kehler) announces her peaceful passing, on December 17, 2024, after many years of battling dementia.

Sophia was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Lydia Kehler; her sister Shirley Hanslip; brother Ernest Kehler; and Darlene's father Donald MacFadyen. She is survived by her daughter Darlene Bellerose; granddaughters, Kaylene and Mallory Bellerose; sister Del Kehler; and brother Walter Kehler; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sophia was born on the homestead and after many years of farm life and working in Eriksdale, she moved to Winnipeg. It was there that she attended Marvel Beauty School, and her career of 45+ years began in the hairdressing industry; many of those years as an instructor at Marvel Beauty School, Scientific Marvel and Pollock Beauty School.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed bingo and her social connections. Over the years, Sophia volunteered at the local community centers, Fort Rouge Legion, and Army Navy Air Force; Branch #303. The ANAF community gave her many memories of meat draws, chase the ace, dancing, dart games and friendships. She also enjoyed baking, sewing and crocheting afghans for all family members. Family was important to mom. She always tried to keep connected to her siblings and shared many laughs with Shirley and Walter. She also loved her sister time with Del. The endless phone calls and lunches out were looked forward to. The laughs they had and shared were always cherished.

Sophia and Darlene had a great bond, too. There were many adventures they shared over the years, but her real excitement came with the births of her granddaughters, Kaylene and Mallory. Nothing brought more joy to her than the relationship that created their strong bond; and the title of Grammie! She never missed an event they were apart of and would change her plans for them at the drop of a hat. The giggles and memories are endless.

The family wishes to thank her doctor, of over 40 years, Dr. Jain and the 3rd floor staff at Misericordia Place for the wonderful care and kindness mom received.

As per mom’s request, there will be no service and internment will be held at a later date.

Mom, you will never be forgotten

and always cherished!

We will miss you.

Sophia’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I want to extend my sincerest condolences on the loss of your Mom. My Mom and yours had such a wonderful friendship during their years together on MP3 and Mom always talked about their shared table at bingo and sharing the spoils. Thank you so much for showing kindness to my Mom during that time. It is my sincerest hope that you find comfort and peace in remembering your Mom with love. 🥰🤗 Sheri
