MICHAEL (MIKE) MACGREGOR

December 22, 1959 - March 25, 2022

Surrounded by friends and family in his last hours, Mike peacefully slipped away from us on March 25, 2022.

Mike was born in Winnipeg on Dec 22, 1959. He spent his first five years living with his mother, Lena Trybel and then moved in with his father and stepmother, Lewis and Joy MacGregor. He was a bit of a wayward soul in his teenage years but developed into a gentle, fun loving, adventurous, honest, moral, hardworking man.

Mike worked at several jobs but was proudest of his long-term job at Reliable Tire Recycling (23 years). He was also proud to hold a Class 1 driver’s license and was a damn good truck driver. He was also proficient at driving a loader, bobcat, excavator…. you name it!

Mike was a Foster Parent for 13 years and welcomed in many children who couldn’t live in their own homes. He treated them like his own really cherished their special moments.

Mike loved his cars and his toys. He cherished his 1966 Pontiac GTO, with the license plate TIGGRRR, as well as his 1969 Datsun Deluxe, with the license plate LIL TGRRR. Over the years he enjoyed boating, water skiing, his high-powered remote-control cars, and driving his Polaris RZR. He relished in the time he could spend at his cabin and often commented on the serenity compared to the city.

Over the years Mike had many, many friends. He loved to spend time with them playing cards, drinking coffee, going to car shows, or just chatting.

Mike was the godfather to a special girl named Katelyn, born in 2005. He enjoyed watching her grow up and was proud that she is learning to drive. He wished he could have helped teach her and will be watching over her to keep her safe on the roads.

As a child, Mike’s nickname from his father was “Smidge”, in his middle years, his friends called him “Chopper”, and more recently, he was referred to as “Magoo”.

Mike will be truly missed by his wife, Marla, and his aunts, uncles, and cousins who have survived him. Mike would often refer to Marla as “Mom” and would embarrass her by yelling it out in public.

Miss Me – But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free.

Miss me a little – but not too long
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me – but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take
And each must go alone;
It's all a part of the master plan
A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me – but let me go.

A ‘Come and Go’ CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on April 2 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road (Unitarian Church). It will be informal but there will be the opportunity to say a few words or share a memory. Masks are recommended, and we ask that you limit

What an amazing guy, we are so lucky to have met and grown into such a wonderful friendship with him and Marla. We will all miss you so much, but especially our kids. They had some great memories with you that they will cherish forever.  Mike use to play with the kids in the water at Miami Beach, he would throw Tyler and Katelyn in, but not too deep as Mike couldn't swim, but the kids could. One year Mike helped Tyler decorate his bike, Tyler was so excited he won first prize and even more excited he didn't have to share his winnings with the guy who did most of the work!  Mike did love his quadding and liked to get everyone muddy and wet, however it would back fire sometimes.  He went to splash Katelyn one time and ended up flipping his side by side upside down.  Good news he wasn't hurt and he did not lose his coffee and Katelyn did not even get wet. Another time out having fun at the pits he gave Tyler $5.00 to put mud on my head when we were stuck in the mud with our quads, Oh Mike! I was already covered but the kid had a blast doing it. Mike recently taught Katelyn to play crib when we went to visit them at their cabin in St Malo, she will never forget that, but not sure she will ever be as good as you! You never wanted us to say good bye when we left and we never did, we still will not, we will just say "till we see you again" xoxoxo  We love you Mike and will never forget you!

It has been many years since I had seen Mike but he was a friend you never forget. I remember the day he walked into my shop and introduced himself. We became fast friends sharing a love of cars, coffee. He became one of the crew at Autofemme helping out in the shop and spending hours trying to save that AMC Spirit! Mike was the biggest teddy bear that would drop everything to help a friend.  It was an honor to be part of the wedding to his best friend Marla and enjoying the time we all spent together till my move to Alberta. Watching the photo biography brought back great memories of  Mike, his laugh and incredible smile. My sincere condolences to Marla and their family.  Darlene Bell
