AGNES MONAGHAN MACLEAN

(née AITKEN)

October 11, 1938 - May 7, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Agnes Maclean announce her passing on May 7th 2022 at the age of 83. She passed peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side.

Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, John, her daughter Fiona and sons John (Christie) and James, her beloved grandchildren Christian, Rosie, Isla and Reese, her sisters Margaret (John) and Elizabeth (John) and numerous relatives in Scotland. Agnes was predeceased by her parents Agnes (Reynolds) and Peter and her brothers Peter and James.

Born in Uddingston, Lanarkshire, Scotland Agnes was the third of five children. She was a wonderful singer and as a young person sang with St. Columba’s Catholic church choir and at many weddings. She trained as a Registered Nurse at the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow and as a midwife at Bellshill Maternity hospital. She arrived in Canada by boat in 1965 and shortly after met the love of her life, John. They were married in Scotland in 1968 and then lived in Ontario, growing their family there before moving to northern Manitoba and eventually settling in Winnipeg. Agnes dedicated her life to her family and to caring for others and touched many lives through her work in nursing and as a foster parent.

Her kindness and generous spirit will never be forgotten.

Sending my deepest condolences. Agnes was one of the most kind hearted, compassionate, soft spoken ladies I had the privilege of meeting. I met Agnes as a young teen mom when they took me in and showed me the ropes of being a good parent, and for that and the warmness I felt being there I will never forget. Thank you for everything you and John did for me. ❤

Dear Maclean Family, please accept our deepest sympathies on the passing of Mrs. Maclean.  We knew her as an extremely generous person who left a big impact on her community through her fostering and caregiving.  I especially appreciated Mrs. Maclean teaching me how to drive a manual transition car and letting me tag along with Johnny on a trip to Scotland where we had a blast visiting with her family.  Too many memories to list here.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Maclean, Fiona, John, James and the rest of the family during this difficult time.  The Boehm Family ❤
