WALTER “WALLY” MACMARTIN

May 24, 1940 – November 27, 2024

After a life well lived, we sadly announce the passing of Wally MacMartin on November 27, 2024, at the age of 84 surrounded by family.

Wally will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Lynn; son Shawn (Marla); daughter Shannon; grandchildren, Michael, Tyler, Teassa, Kyle, and Isabella, with whom he had a very special relationship.

Also surviving him are his great grand children, Rowen and Noah; sister Pat (Trish);  brother in law Russ Duthoit; nieces, Lisa, Kristine, Erin; and sister in law Shelley (Allen).

He was predeceased by his brother Ted; and his stepson Craig Hebert.

Wally began his working career at MTS, followed by 20 plus years at Xerox, making many friends while there and keeping in touch with many of them. He ended his career in Management at the United Way.

Wally was a man of integrity, loyalty, commitment, and fun. For these reasons and more he did well in his career.

Wally was also a talented craftsman. His patience and handyman skills served him well in the many projects he took on around the house.

As he transitioned to retirement, he and Lynn changed their lifestyle, moving to Stonewall, and traveling to their home away from home in the Yuma area of Arizona.

While there, they both met many new friends during 20 years of countless good times.

Retirement also meant travel for Wally and Lynn, and travel they did! To many destinations.

Wally was fiercely loyal and generous to others, as well as those in his world.

He will be missed by many.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Stonewall's beautiful Quarry Park Heritage Art Centre located at 166 Main St. Stonewall, MB. Additional directions can be found below, or on their website by clicking here.

Wally’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I am sorry to hear of Wally's passing. He was my 1st manager at Xerox and was very personable in his direction and very fair. I always looked forward to seeing him in meetings and other Xerox functions.

There's not enough room here to describe our years long relationship with Wally and Lynn! He was like a brother to Wayne during the many Xerox years! Everyone worked hard - and partied just as hard!!! Fun times with us during summers at Laclu and we are forever gratefull that they introduced us to the "Snowbird" lifestyle and all of their Wellton amigos!! From the skits of the Witch Doctor to the evening gown of Miss Coach Stop..... memories of you will ALWAYS bring us smiles!!

Enjoy the other side, Wal....I'm sure we'll be along soon enough!!

Such an amazing friendship with our family over so many years, beginning during the Xerox years with Wayne & Eileen, many lake visits, Arizona & Interlake retirement days. 🍻 🌞 🍷 💕 So many memories to never be forgotten. Sending Lynn & family all of our light & love ❤️ ❤️

I was very blessed to meet Wally out camping with a whole group of us during our years in Manitoba. Just this summer he and Lynne came to visit me in Canmore, Alberta.

Wally was a very gracious and kind individual whom I loved Dearly for his deep and devoted love for my Deareast Friend, Lynne.

The world was a better place because of Wally's presence.

I am forever grateful to have had him in my life.

We first met Wally and Lynn in Wellton, AZ as Snowbirds in about 2000 through our longtime friends, Wally's cuz Gail and Don Tulloch. We shared many memorable life experiences as AZ Winter Visitors over approximately 20 years of that lifestyle. This connection extended back to Winnipeg and Stonewall during the rest of the year. We all stopped the Snowbird lifestyle in 2019 and have remained connected since. Wally enjoyed a dram or two of Scotch on occasion and he always appreciated our stock of Glenfiddich. When invited to dinner at the MacMartin household, however it was strictly forbidden to come armed with the usual offering of a bottle of vino. His personal wine making operation was second to none. Wally was a good man and good friend. He will be remembered for many reasons and will, likewise, be missed.

We shared many wonderful times with Wally and Lynn, always filled with laughter, shared stories and often a beer or two. Wally, we'll miss you a lot!

Uncle Wally had such a great smile!! He was always happy to see you. I have many great memories of our familes being together at his house on both Sommerville and Tufnell. Family get togethers at Brererton and Jessica Lake. Thanksgiving dinners, birthday celebrations, Christmas Day. Uncle Wally was a huge part of my life. I hope he knew how much I loved him and will miss him. Say "Hi" to Dad for me. Cheers
