Anne MacVicar
ANNE CAMPBELL MACVICAR
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Anne Campbell MacVicar at Grace Hospice on the evening of July 24, 2024, at the age of 84. Anne is survived by her daughters, Carol Unruh and Lynn Selwood; and her grandchildren, Riley (Leah), Emma, Miranda (Kyle), and Lucy. She was predeceased by her parents, Angus MacVicar and Verna “Bonnie” Sissons.
Anne was raised on the MacVicar farm and schooled in Portage la Prairie. She moved to Winnipeg for nurses’ training at the Misericordia, class of ‘59, then to Montreal and to Australia with her then husband John Selwood, until 1970 when they returned to Winnipeg to raise their family.
As a proud Manitoba farm girl, her greatest passion was volunteering for the Manitoba Historical Society supporting farmers achieving MHS Centennial Farm recognition. Multiple generations have benefitted from her diligent archival research and personal touch. She herself was twice recognised with the MHS Douglas Kemp Award for her contributions.
She was committed to promoting female artists of Western Canada and a supporter of many arts organizations, including the Winnipeg Youth Orchestra. She also enjoyed researching her Scottish heritage and genealogy, gardening, many relaxing hours at Clear Lake, and sharing tea with friends and family.
Please join us for tea and shortbread at the Leo Mol gallery in Assiniboine Park at 2:00pm on Friday August 2, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MacVicar Family Endowment Fund with the Community Foundation of Portage and District, supporting education in Agriculture.
There will be an interment at Hillside Cemetery in Portage at a later date.
Anne’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

On behalf of the Misericordia Nurses' Alumni, please accept our condolences and may the memories of a life well lived be of some comfort to her family, friends and colleagues. Anne was a strong Alumni supporter and historian. Her classmates of 1960 B will miss her as will all of us who had the good fortune to know her.
