COLLETTE MARIE ROSE MADRIGGA

(née DEGAGNE)

March 6, 1951 - May 20, 2022

Collette passed away after a long fight with multiple illnesses, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dennis Madrigga, was beloved Mother to Darcy Madrigga (Rudolpho) and Wendy Madrigga (Mark) and cherished Memere (Grandmother) to Liam and Sydney. Sister of Hubert DeGagne, Marcel DeGagne (Anita) and Leo DeGagne. She is predeceased by her Mother Aline DeGagne (nee Lauze) her Father Louis DeGagne, sister Louise DeGagne, brothers Roger DeGagne and Gerald DeGagne. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, brothers and sisters in-law as well as many cousins and friends who loved her dearly. Though she struggled with multiple health issues in her later years, she will be remembered fondly for her sense of humour and zest for life.

Collette had a big heart and touched all who knew her. She was a proud VIA Rail employee before moving on to the Grey Nuns, where she cooked many hearty meals for the Sisters. She retired from Cangene, where she worked in the Data department. The job she loved most was always being a Mother and Grandmother, where she excelled in her field. She spent many happy summers camping with her family and friends as well as cheering on her many nieces and nephews at various sporting events, though never as loudly as when she went to cheer on her best buddy and Grandson Liam, during his hockey, football and soccer games.

She will be most remembered for her no-nonsense attitude, generosity to loved ones and strangers alike and her charasmatic laugh that could be heard from miles away. Collette spent much of her golden years fighting through various illnesses with grace and strength, but finally succumbed on May 20, 2022. She was fierce, fearless and bold. Just 5'2 in stature, she had a giant personality. Collette had a way of making everyone feel special. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. Our thanks go out to Dr. McDiarmid, Dr. Xhu and Dr. Cudmore as well as the nurses and HCA's at St Boniface Hospital who cared for her and made her comfortable in her final days. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

“You would know the secret of death.

But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life? The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.

If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life. For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one. In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond; And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow, your heart dreams of spring. Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity…

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.”

~Kahlil Gibran

Collette raised two amazing kids who I was fortunate enough to be friends with and I'll miss the way she'd join right into our childish antics, even escalating them, always laughing with us. She had such a playful spirit. Sending love and strength to you, Darcy and Wendy ❤
