STEVE MAKARA

July 30, 1943 - April 12, 2025

On April 12 at 2:11pm Steve made his final journey at 81 years old.

Steve leaves behind his partner of 43 years Patricia; his sons, James Hayes, Joseph Hayes, and Shauna Makara; his step children, Clayton Hayes & Jacqueline Hayes.

He will meet his family gone before him - His parents, James & Elsie Makara; His brothers, Chuck, Allan, & Kenneth; sister Linda; and children, Sheila & Marvin.

Steve worked hard all his life, he worked in the mines in Lynn Lake, as a painter and commercial fisherman. He worked at Frehuf Trailer for many years, he was a heavy equipment operator and help build the Brunkild Dike. Steve built boats with his dad when younger and even talked about cutting trees at 13 years old.

Steve loved the outdoors, hunting and spent many summers taking James & Joey to Oak Hammock Marsh. He loved watching Geese. He would leave the apartment and go find a place they were nesting and sit for hours there. Steve loved country living growing up and has many fond memories with his brothers & cousins.

He loved music and would play it at home on his computer, he especially liked country music.

He loved watching his boys play hockey when they were younger, he was so proud of them. He did many fundraisers when they were playing.

Steve suffered the last couple of years of his life with Dementia and health issues but always had time to make me smile. He would say “G’night Ma,” every night and thank me for supper every single day. The life we shared was hard at times, but I shared a love with Steve that no one else will know, and I will keep that close to my heart.

I would to thank the Staff at the Grace Hospital 5th floor for their kindness and compassion. While Myself and sister Deb were there for 5 days before Steve passed.

Steve did not want a funeral but will be buried by his father at Riverton Cemetery.

Steve’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
