Jean Marcotte

JEAN DOROTHY MARCOTTE
October 20, 1947 – January 6, 2025
Jean Dorothy Marcotte, wife to Armand, mother to Kevin and David, grandmother to Kaleb and Kyle, passed away on January 6, 2025, at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. She was 77. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Jean was born October 20, 1947, in Hamilton Ontario, to Gertrude and George Cooper. When she grew up and was introduced to Armand through a mutual friend, it was love at first sight. Wedding bells rang out on April 5, 1967, and from there, the family adventure began. First stop: CFB Winnipeg. Kevin was born in 1968. David followed a little while after, in 1973. From there, the family would be privileged to be given two postings to Germany, from 1975 - 1980, and again from 1985 - 1993. Both times they were stationed at CFE Baden Soellingen, although they opted to further enrich the experience by living in various towns that dotted the countryside, rather than live on the base. Greffern, Weitenung, Wintersdorf, Huegelsheim; so many wonderful memories. So many wonderful people. Living in Europe had always been the stuff of dreams for Jean, and she was able to live that dream for over 12 years.
In the years between, from 1980 - 1985, the family was stationed at CFB Downsview, in Toronto. A different experience from their trans-Atlantic adventure, but a blessing, nevertheless. That's when Jeans mom, Gertrude, came to live with them. When Armand retired from the military in 1993, he and Jean chose Halifax, Nova Scotia as their next home, where they spent the next 30 years of their journey. When they returned to Winnipeg in the first days of spring, 2024, at long last, the family was reunited. Her journey had come full circle, and she passed away, peacefully, in the same hospital where her children were born. Jean was a warrior with a heart of gold. She was a peacemaker and caretaker. She was a shoulder to lean on, always willing to listen. And she had the toughest career of all: Stay at home mom. Jeans family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing.
She is survived by (husband) Armand; (children) Kevin and David; (their partners) Marcie and Stacy; (grandson) Kaleb; (brother) George; (best friends) Trish and Judy; and absolutely everyone whose life had been touched by her presence.
Jean’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
