NADIA MARMACH
B.H.Ec B.ED
May 2, 1934 – February 2 2023
Nadia Marmach our beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her home. She is survived by her son Ken Ziolkoski (Pam), daughter Brenda (Cal Osborne) grandchildren Sonya Blandford (Steve), Bryce Osborne (Samantha), Mirielle Yanishewski (Cody) Lauren Osborne (Rick Lecuyer) and great-grandchildren Madison, Liam, Hailey, Khloe, Sadie, Blake, Everett, and Peyton.
Our mother grew up on the family farm in Garland Manitoba. Predeceased by her parents, George and Julia Marmach, her siblings, Nicholas, Michael, Lena, Sophie Korchinski and Anne Krawchuk and survived by her sister Nell Moneta, cousin Dolores Koettgen, nieces, and nephews. She completed her high school in the neighboring town of Ethelbert. Her first teaching position was at Duck River School District and after graduation from Teacher’s College (Normal School), she taught in Cranberry Portage and The Pas. In 1967 she moved with her children to Winnipeg. She was a single parent and could only afford to pay for 2 years of university. With resilience and determination, and her relentless pursuit of a higher education, she waited on tables at night and completed her 3-year degree in 2 years, graduating with high marks. After obtaining her Home-Ec degree, she completed her Batchelor of Education degree. She was employed by the Assiniboine South School Division, first at Charleswood Junior High and then ended her accomplished career at Westdale Junior High. She was an exceptional tailor and sewing late into the evenings would make elaborate Halloween costumes and fancy Christmas dresses for her grandchildren. Her grand dogs also benefited from her sewing skills and sported fancy winter jackets and boots.
Life was not always easy for her, and she faced countless obstacles. Our Mom was always optimistic, never complained and would look for the positives. She was strong and courageous. A woman of faith, she was an active member at Windermere, Donnelly and Westworth United Church.
She loved to travel and made trips to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska to name a few. She obtained her Pilot’s License at forty, took Piano lessons and down hill skiing at fifty, played seniors soft ball well into her sixties and started roller blading at eighty. While roller blading, she had a fall and dislocated her fingers in one hand. She looked at her hand and said, “well that doesn’t look right” and proceeded to relocate her fingers herself. After a trip to ER to get her hand checked out, the Doctor said she did an amazing job and he hoped to be as active as she was when he reached eighty. These last few years she enjoyed bowling, however, she started to slow down this past year. She still drove the five-hour trip to Garland several times a year by herself and loved to putter in the garden. She had an incredible memory, an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and kept up with reading and watching news programs. She lived a full life, enjoyed getting together with friends for lunch and appreciated her former students who would stay connected with her. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
We would like to extend our appreciation to the WPS for their compassion and kindness during this difficult time. In keeping with her wishes, Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
