HENRY MARTENS
June 4, 1928 (Grunthal, MB)

Boswell observed that, “ones life can not be all praise - in every picture there should be shade as well as light.”
As to the light, a good book said, "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

Our father had reason to be proud of the fruits he has born. He, along with our mother, raised six children with successful careers ranging from the medical field to farming.
Survived by Dorothy (nee Dove), his wife of 73 years; children; Ken (Lynn), Evelyn (Doug), Patricia (Ken-Deceased), Lester (Katie), Mildred (Edward), and Bruce (Luba). Grandchildren: Jamie, Colin, Jennifer, Mark, Alexander, Andrew, and great-granddaughter, Shaelynn. Also: brother John (Yvonne), sister Helen (Ben–deceased), and sisters-inlaw: Marlene (Jake-deceased) and Sarah (Art-deceased).
An avid hunter in his early days, in later years he was unwilling to do anything to the deer and rabbits that dined in their garden.
One of his greatest interests was photography, which he pursued for most of his life. The self-portrait showing him smoking was taken at a time when the habit was very much in fashion and, notwithstanding many attempts, it wasn’t until his 70s that he was finally able to shake the habit.
He was widely recognised as having a talent for all things mechanical as well as in woodworking; an aptitude that sometimes led to grand plans – not all completed if something took him to newer, grander plans.
According to Dad’s wishes, no ceremony will take place and he will be cremated with ashes interred in New Ottawa, Saskatchewan. A Celebration of Life will take place at a time to be determined.
