Besos al cielo, ñoqui man…

I’m so sorry for your loss, Annie. Jim was such a great character—I really appreciated his wicked sense of humor. His storytelling was epic, and his sometimes colorful punchlines would make you laugh so hard your eyes would water. You were always sure to have a great time in his company.
The last time I got to spend some one-on-one time with Jim, we took a ride in my 1970 MGB through St. Vital Park. He gave me some advice to get it running smoother—I’ll be sure to do what he said.
You will be missed, my friend.

Jim is my cousin (I still think of him in the present tense). I was about 10 years old when I first met Jim in Winnipeg. I remember the fun we had camping in a tent in his back yard on Majer Drive. I also remember the fun we had climbing all over the Countess of Dufferin steam locomotive, then on display in front of the Royal Alexandria Hotel in downtown Winnipeg. This photo of Jim and Ani was taken in 2006 at the wedding of Becky-Jo, the daughter of Jim’s cousin Marjo.

I've known Jim most of my life and always got a kick out of his wicked and sometimes crude sense of humor and ascorbic wit. He married my sister when they were both very young. Haven't seen him often over the past few years but I know he was very happy and cared for by Ani. My thoughts are with you Ani

I am one of the "Owls" and a friend of Jim since elementary school.
Jim was popular throughout his life. He had a great sense of humour and was always upbeat. He could lift a group's mood with his presence. If you sought and received his advice, you could immediately sense the practical wisdom it contained.
Jim's storytelling ability was magnetic. He had remarkable communication skills. He used direct, often colourful language describing people and circumstances so clearly that you felt like you were there. He had an impeccable sense of timing as well.
Some years ago, I attended a dinner in Winnipeg planned by the Owls. I arrived a bit late, looked around, and I noticed a table surrounded by the serving staff. As I walked closer, I heard the group erupt in laughter. I knew I had found Jim and our table.
As we were leaving, we were asked by the staff, "Who is that guy? We could listen to him for hours!"
We replied, "That is Jim McArthur, and we love to listen to him too."
Thanks for the many memories Jim. They will keep enriching our lives.

Sending heartfelt condolences to you Annie. My memories of cousin goes back to my childhood days and continued when I came to live in Winnipeg and had the delight to meet you and renew some good times with you and Jim when I came to volunteer at H.L. Softly school as a volunteer for a short time. Jim was always such a crazy caring person. We sure had some good times in Regina Days and when our family used to come and stay at his house in Winnipeg. For me I will cherish the memories. I will tip a glass of good home brew.
