BRIDGET ANNE MCCORMICK

November 9, 1947 - February 15, 2023

Bridget Anne McCormick passed away on February 15, 2023 with her children, Barbara, Sean (Luther), and Michelle Burkowski at her side.

Bridget was born in Montreal on November 9, 1947 and is survived by her brother Bruce, along with nieces and nephews whom she cared for deeply. She was predeceased by her parents Patricia and Evan McCormick, brothers Ian and Rod and sister Joyce.

Bridget’s life was dedicated and focused on her family. She worked hard to provide for her busy children, and always found time to give back where she could. She led her life with gratitude, optimism, and faith, and welcomed many friends into her home over the years. She cherished the many friendships she made on Brewster Bay and with the Transcona Pipe Band family. In recent years, she found great enjoyment joining the dinner crowd at Fred Douglas Place and volunteering with HOPE International.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bridget’s memory can be made to internationalhope.ca.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 25, 2023, in the Parish of St. Bernadette, 820 Cottonwood Road, with prayers at 10:30 AM.

Bridget's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Auntie Bridget was a real Matriarch of our family. She was always more of a grandmother to me than an aunt. She was strong willed and caring and supportive. She is very missed and will continue to be. Love you Auntie B, Sean, Michelle and Barb.

I have the fondest memories of your mom sitting at the kitchen table on Brewster Bay, calmly drinking coffee while high school kids were in her basement doing all the things high school kids shouldn’t be doing. She was so kind and welcoming, and seemingly unflappable. I’m so glad you had so much time together, and so profoundly sad it ended too soon. Sending so much love to all of you.

I was fortunate to get to know Bridget on a  Transcona Pipe band trip to Nova Scotia when her family had aged out of the band. She easily became a member of our band family and we enjoyed many good times. Always a smile and warm welcome when’s we met since then. My sympathies to Barb, Sean and Michelle.

Bridget and I have been good friends for the past 38 or so years. I often sought out her advice and often called her ‘my voice of reason’. We could talk about anything and usually did.😊 I met Bridget while working part time when both of our kids were small,  Bridget was true to her faith and lived her life accordingly, seeing the best in people and of any situation.  She often spoke of how wonderful life was living in Transcona …she enjoyed the neighbourhood and still had ongoing friendships with many her neighbours there. Bridget was especially proud of her Scottish heritage and she beamed with great pride that her children were involved in the Transcona Pipe Band and would share stories of the many trips that were taken with this group. The whole group were much like her second family. One of her greatest memories was travelling with the band to overseas to perform,  Another great love of Bridget’s was Hope International where she volunteered for many years -it was so rewarding to her to have a much needed shipment of hospital equipment and supplies sent were it was so sorely needed.  Barb, Sean, Luther and Michelle I am sending you my sincerest sympathies on the loss of your mom, she will be greatly missed. May your many happy memories keep you strong in the coming days and sustain you.
