KENNETH ROBERT MCCRACKEN

July 6, 1946 – January 24, 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce that Ken Robert McCracken suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on January 24, 2021 at his residence, at the age of 74 years.

Leaving to mourn, with fond and loving memories, are his wife of 49 years, Edith; sons, Montey and Michael (Rachel); grandson Chace; sisters, Pat Buhler and Joyce (Jim) Brown of Cranbrook, BC; sister’s in-law, Shirley (Orest) Drewniak, Wendy Dyke (Andy Howe), Michelle (Jerry) Raike; and many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and an abundance of friends. He was predeceased by his mother Agnes Theresa Schindler in 2001; father Robert Alan McCracken in the early 1980’s; brother-in-law William “Bill” Clayton Myketiuk (Brenda) on May 4, 2009; mother-in-law Evelyn Margaret Smith on June 24, 1994.

Always larger than life, and so loving and kind, he liked nothing more than to entertain folks with many stories and endless jokes. He was incredibly good at making people laugh due to his fantastic sense of humour!

Ken worked 35 years for CN Rail, retiring at the age of 55. He loved volunteering at the Pan Am Summer Games in Manitoba, and, for many years, at the Earl Grey Community Centre. Ken was everyone’s favourite bingo caller.

Rest easy Ken ‘til we meet again! You are so loved! Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal!! You will dearly be missed by all who knew you.

A huge thank you to the first responders and the doctors, nurses and staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital. A special thank you to Marcia LaPerre and Sean Shimaro for your help during this very difficult time.

In accordance with Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Ken's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

A friendly smile, a casual touch, These are the things that mean so much, To know you are with us, in our time of sorrow, Sharing our prayers, today and tomorrow, God gives us comfort in the form of good friends, May His peace be with you, His love never ends.

Words cannot express the shock I felt when I heard Ken had passed away. My first thought was is someone with Edith. If you seen Edith you know Ken was around somewhere. And yes Ken was the favorite BINGO caller for many years at EGCC. Edith, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how hard it is for you and the boys. To help ease the pain, think of all the warm and loving feelings in your memories. He is not too far away. He will be around guiding and protecting you. Take care Edith ((( HUGS)))  To Montey and Red ( Michael ) I don't know what to say except that I'm sorry for your loss. I understand the pain of losing someone who was instrumental in your life. I lost my Dad too . Don't dwell on the hurt and pain but remember him for the good times. ❤❤❤

It is in times like these that we especially reach out to our savior and need him so desperately. He sees your grief and knows your pain. My heart breaks at hearing about Kenny's passing. He was always there with a great big smile when he would run into you.  He so loved his life with Edith and always shared a tidbit about something that was happening in their lives. She was the sunshine of his life.  As many will attest Kenny had a great big and generous heart. It showed as he was very active in volunteering in his community. There is so many memories of him, but the ones the most vivid to me is his calling bingo.  I ran across some pictures from the volunteer appreciation party years ago that EGCC had put on for the volunteers and I found one where Kenny was "volunteering assisting in dealing cards (ie volunteering) for the blackjack table instead of playing as the volunteers were supposed to be doing... but what we say that was who Kenny was.. He would always jump right in and help... it always made him happy to be able to assist in any way he can. Another fond memory was running into him at Minuks. He said he picked it up to keep him busy in his retirement. I know he loved the interaction with others as he was in his glory helping people and chatting it up with them. So many laughs and fun times... To all those who knew him, I wish you prayers, strength and peace as you remember the fond memories of him. Please keep his loved ones in your thoughts especially his wife Edith and their sons Monty and Red... I know it will not be easy without him here but please know that he is watching out for you through your family, friends and neighbors.  RIP Kenny... 😳
