John McCreanor
TERENCE “JOHN” DENNIS MCCREANOR
October 8, 1949 – August 19, 2024
It’s with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Terance John Dennis McCreanor on August 19, 2024, at the age of 74, after a long battle with cancer. John is survived by the love his life and best friend Deb McCreanor; their children, Krystal McCreanor (River), Jacqueline McCreanor (Cole), Michael McCreanor; grandchild Isla Dales; his sister Maureen Gage (Ross); sister-in-law Joanne Davies; brother-in-law Rick Fast; mother-in-law Sharon Gowler; mother-in-law Marylynn Bannatyne; and many nieces and nephews.
John is predeceased by his parents, Dennis & Pearl Ruth McCreanor; sister Muriel Fast; father-in-law Bruce Bannatyne; father-in-law George Gowler; and brother-in-law Brian Davies.
John was born on October 8th, 1949 in Winnipeg, MB. He grew up in Fort Rouge, attended Lord Roberts School, St John’s Ravenscourt and graduated from Churchill Highschool in 1966. He continued his education at UofM in computer science. John started working at MTS in 1971, where he met the love of his life Deb at the test center in 1978. Deb and John married on July 17, 1982. The family moved to Charleswood in 1988. John loved his community and spending time with his children. He was on the board of Varsity View Community Club, as well as coaching both hockey and baseball. John, Deb and the kids always enjoyed going on many family trips. They visited his parents in Florida every winter, creating magical memories together at the beach and theme parks.
In 1991 John accepted a position with Stentor Canada (Bell) and the family moved to Ottawa. While in Ottawa John took advantage of everything the city had to offer, like skating to work on the Rideau Canal, eating beaver tails and enjoying the amazing ice sculptures. The family continued to explore eastern Canada and the US by taking road trips at every chance they got.
Once back in Winnipeg, John found his love for hot rods buying his first 1940 Chevy. He joined Manitoba Street Rod Association (MSRA) and it quickly became his favourite hobby. Through this, he made several great friendships that lasted until his final days. Over the years the family spent their summers at the lake, John started going to Falcon Lake as a child, where his father built the family cabin. He continued this tradition with his own family creating lifelong memories.
In 2003 John and Deb moved to St Francois Xavier and John retired from MTS. They continued their vacationing in hot spots, taking cruises and many family adventures. While living in St Francois Xavier, John volunteered as an Emergency Measures Officer, chaired the MSRA Rodorama Car show, assisted at Wrought Iron Works, as well as the MSRA Toy Run. When he was not volunteering John was cheering Deb on at her curling games. He followed her across the country, supporting, as her number 1 fan. Throughout the years John continued to be an avid volunteer, giving his time to the Brier, Scotties, & Pan Am Games - just to name a few.
John always lent a helping hand to anyone. If you needed him, he was there. He was able to fix and/or build absolutely anything; you name it, and John could figure it out. He was also a big lover of animals and was called “the dog whisperer”, they loved him to pieces.
John will be missed by all who knew him and we will never forget what a great man he was. Things will never be the same and you are forever in our hearts. We love you.
His family would like to thank the staff of 3 South at the Grace Hospital for their care and compassion during John’s final weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to CancerCare Manitoba, or the charity of your choosing.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00pm on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 603 Wellington Crescent in Winnipeg (First Unitarian Universalist Church).
John’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

We are so sorry to hear about John's passing. He was a special person and will be missed. He was a super manager and a good friend to alot of his "understudies" like me. We enjoyed our time together in Ottawa and while we haven't been in touch much over the years, we will always remember him fondly.
Thinking about you all and keeping you in our prayers.
Take care. xo

John , we shall miss your presence during our Saturday breakfast and of course your story's and the typical car guy banter. Your battle with cancer and strength to carry on was insperational especially with all the challenges over the last few years. May you rest in peace. Deb, we are so sorry for your loss and the breakfast gang will be with you on Oct 8th 2024 to say farewell to our friend. God bless the McCreanor family .
