COLIN ROBERT McFARLANE

November 30, 1936 - November 04, 2019

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa, Colin Robert McFarlane on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the age of 82 years.

Colin leaves behind his loving wife, partner and best friend of 59 years Jennifer; sons Colin, Stewart (Gina) and Grant; grandchildren Melissa (Paul), Braeden, Korie, Jennifer, Joanna, Munroe, Ceally and Henely; great grandchildren Imogen, Thaddeus, Loki and Moira; older brother Jimmy McFarlane in Scotland, along with numerous nieces and nephews also in Scotland.

Colin is predeceased by his granddaughter Haley, his little angel in heaven.

Colin was born in Dundee, Scotland on November 30, 1936 to Colin and Elizabeth McFarlane. On March 26, 1960 Colin married the love of his life Jennifer (née Napier) McFarlane. Colin, along with Jennifer and their three boys immigrated to Canada, landing in Winnipeg, MB in 1967 the spring after the Toronto Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup.

Colin was a deeply loyal and devoted, long suffering Leafs fan. Most Saturday nights Colin would be in HIS chair, watching Hockey Night in Canada, cheering for or cursing at his beloved Leafs. Colin passed this passion for the Maple Leafs onto all three of his sons.

If there was anything Colin was more passionate about it was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Colin was a loving, caring grandpa and great grandpa and his own, unique, special sense of humor, both playful and mischievous is going to be dearly missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Colin’s name, to a charity of your choice are greatly appreciated.

At Colin’s request, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral service will be held.

“Very smart” was what I thought of Colin the first time I met him. I was in my early teens when Colin started to go out with my Auntie Jennifer (Jay as I always called her) Slick hair combed in true ‘D.A.’ style, button down shirt collars, high level suit lapels. All of these things made a great impression on me at that time. Louise (my wife of some 45 years) & I were saddend to hear yesterday of his passing. Last time we saw them both must have been around 18 years ago. They came to our house in Stonehaven, Scotland and we went for an extended lunch. Colin & I shared more than a few glasses of Red Wine! After Jay and Colin were married I used to bump into him at the football in Dundee when his beloved Hibernian FC was playing Dundee. Their sons will no doubt be a great comfort to Jay just now. I remember driving them all to Glasgow to a meeting they had just before they were due to emigrate. Our thoughts go out to all the family at what is a difficult and sad time. It is our hope that as the pain of Colin’s passing begins to ease they will all reflect on the good times the all had together. Douglas and Louise Reid – Stonehaven, Scotland.

Condolences to the McFarlane family in Canada. Colin was my first cousin although strangely I don’t believe we ever met. I fondly remember however many Hogmanay/New Years growing up when my dad George and his brothers and sisters along with cousin Jimmy would celebrate the new year together and wait in anticipation for the call to or from Canada after the ‘bells’. The mixture of tears of joy when they spoke on the phone and also the tears of sadness knowing that Colin and family were so far away was a memory so evident and memorable to me as a young boy. Sorry to hear about Colin. Graeme and Susan McFarlane and family, Dundee, Scotland.
