ROSS McGREGOR

June 6, 1943 - October 9, 2021

With broken hearts the family announces the passing of Ross, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Born in 1943 in East York, Ontario the son of the late Norman and Alice McGregor. Ross had a generous heart and touched many lives. His dogs, grandson and his cabin at Smokey Lake were the most important things in his life. Ross loved spending time with his dogs, fishing, taking pictures, videos and talking to everyone.

In 1973 he joined Poole Construction Company Limited as a carpenter in Fort McMurray. Ross traveled quite a bit in those years (Calgary, Yellowknife and Winnipeg). In 1977 he was off to Halifax. In 1979 Poole Construction changed its name to PCL Construction Ltd. He later returned to Winnipeg-which would become his home. In 1981 he was appointed superintendent. Over his 30 year career he completed many jobs from $5000 to $5 million. He enjoyed the relationships he made with customers, trades and his fellow workers.

He leaves behind son Scott (Kimberley); grandson Logan; and sister Norma. He will be missed by his fur buddies Krissy & Gabe. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews and many friends.

He is predeceased by his mother Alice; father Norman; sisters, Evelyn, Marjorie, Ethel, and Shirley; as well as brother John.

Many thanks to his neighbours and Curtis for the support over the years and being such a huge help though out his journey; you were always fondly talked about, and we are truly grateful you were there for him.

Cremation has taken place and a private scattering of ashes ceremony will be held at Smokey Lake.

Ross’s family kindly request that friends and family take a few minutes to honour his memory by posting a memory or story and any photos you wish to share.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a donation in Ross’s memory be made to Manitoba Great Pyrenees Rescue at mgprescue@gmail.com

"Back in the Day" Ross ended up in hospital (gallbladder) and had mandatory recovery at home for several weeks. He came back to work proudly telling us and showing, how he did not waste any time while recovering at home. He learned about computer Operating system as well several applications, including Excel and Word. From that day, he was always used computer on the projects. We went one day for an interview at 360 Main building with large tenant. During the interview, Client and Designer asked the question how to deal with out-dated glass block walls. Client took us for the walk around the space after interview. When Ross looked at Client's glass block walls, he said that he's the one who worked on the project, when those partitions were put up. A week later we've got a project.  Ross' mind was always working and looking for better, more efficient and safe ways to do the things.  My deepest Condolences to Ross' Family.

The very first time we went to our newly purchased Smoky Lake cabin our fully loaded three wheeler broke down. Within minutes Ross came along on his quad and gave me a lift! Rob followed on foot and minutes after we all arrived along came Ralph on his quad with the rest of our stuff! Ross was always there to help and tell some good stories. "Back in the day' Ross's superb and very tasty home made beverages had us both slipping, falling on the ice and laughing, as we went back to our cabin after an excellent visit at his home away from home. We are so grateful for the memories we shared! We wish to express our Deepest Sympathy to all of  Ross's loved ones. We will fondly miss you, Ross. ❤

Ross was always planning how to do things better.  He was extremely inventive and a very generous man with his time.  Ross helped us with many projects at our cottage and would only relax when the work was done for the day.  My husband looked forward to the Mcgoo Fishing Tournaments where Ross usually started a conservation saying "you know what you should do".  He was always thinking, always kind, and always the best friend to his beloved pets.  My sincere sympathies to his family and all his friends.  May the wonderful memories of Ross help you through this difficult time. Rest in Peace dear Mr. Mcgoo.

Being a neighbor of Ross's at the lake i have shared in many fond memories with him. I was fortunate to spend a few days with him the last week he was there. We discussed replacing a bridge on the trail. After consulatation with structural engineers, many drawings, inventory of supplies and hours of discussion we had a plan. That was Ross. There was always a plan and a backup plan. Things were done right. Never without a pen and a pad. You'll be missed dearly. My condolences to the family and all the friends of Ross.

I started my career with Ross, I am where I am today because of him. Trades used to come to me and ask me how I put up with him, that was because he knew what he wanted and how to get it done. I would just tell them because he is right and that’s just Ross. My condolences to his family and his fur family.
