LAURA VIOLA JEAN MCINTOSH

(née Auvigne)

January 22, 1958 – July 13, 2025

Laura McIntosh passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on July 13, 2025, with her husband of 42 years, Brian McIntosh, at her side. Born in Calgary on January 22, 1958, Laura was the youngest child of the late Louis Golden Auvigne and Laura Viola Mae (Hillyard) Auvigne. Throughout her life she opened her home and heart to family, friends, and strangers alike, sharing the steadfast faith that guided her from childhood.

A Life of Faith and Welcome

Laura’s faith blossomed early at Bowood Gospel Chapel in Calgary and deepened during Bible school in Edmonton. After meeting Brian—first a neighbour and family friend, then the fellow hockey fan who proposed on the way to a Calgary Flames game—she married him on October 2, 1982. Together they embarked on a life of adventure and hospitality.

New employment took the young couple to The Pas, Manitoba, where their five children were born and where Laura’s gifts for caregiving, community service, and unshakeable hockey-mom enthusiasm flourished. She later ran the local Christian Book Store, extending encouragement and spiritual resources to northern Manitoba. Subsequent moves to Brooks, Alberta, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, never dimmed her “open-door policy”—a hot coffee, a listening ear, and a prayer were always waiting.

Though her health declined over the past decade, Laura continued to welcome guests, comfort the hurting, and pray fervently for those she loved. Travels—from a European honeymoon to pilgrimages in the Holy Land and family hockey trips across North America and beyond—only widened her circle of friends.

I was blessed and treated like family for the 2 months I lived in their home back in 2000. I remember being so welcomed and even got to help with flower deliveries one day. She was strong and cared for me like one of her own. I've never forgotten about that time and how amazing it was. I hope y'all remember the good and give each other hugs from me. I'm praying for comfort and peace knowing that we're going to see her again🫂🙏🏽

My heartfelt sympathy for your loss. Laura's passing has left a void for all of us who knew her, loved her and cherished her.

Laura and I met at Sears. She was the record lady bringing new records weekly to the electronic dept and I was the sales person. That was over 40 yrs ago. We always made a point to connect over tge years when she was in Calgary. It was an honor to meet her immediate family. Remembering Laura for her big heart, her love and her faith., will help all of us with her passing.

All my love to you all. Thinking of you.

So thankful for the priviledge of knowing Laura as a friend over the past decades from years at Bowood, raising kids of similar ages, and visits to The Pas and Winnepeg. Her optimistic Christian outlook on life was so refreshing. She took on the challenges of life with hope and a dose of laughter. Laura will definitely be missed! Our prayers are with family as you celebrate her life.

I met Laura when I was In elementary school and attended Bowood Gospel Chapel. As we aged we became good friends and worked at the Dairy Queen together. She always looked out for me like a big sister., both physically and spiritually. I loved that she didn't pull any punches when trying to get me back on the right path. She was never wrong! I will always remember her beautiful smile and gorgeous eyes.

After she moved away we lost touch but reconnected over Facebook and would occasionally chat on the phone. Despite her health challenges she always remained upbeat. I will always admire her for her strength and unwavering commitment to Jesus.

Laura, you are finally home... enjoy this next part of your journey. ❤️

To Brian and family....my deepest condolences to you at this very difficult time. Cherish the memories and know you will see her again someday.

So many good memories of Laura over the years. Our families were close and Laura was such a good friend to me but especially to my wife Kim.

One of my fondest memories are the good times we had on the UK vacation Kim and I took with Laura and Brian in 2013. When Kim passed away Laura shared my sorrow and encouraged me. At this difficult time my thoughts and prayers are with Brian and family.

Laura and I grew up together at Bowood Gospel Chapel... She always had a quick wit , a quick gate and a competitive spirit... Probably our Bible drill competition wasn't too spiritually minded.... I could see her spiritual maturity deepen as we hung at young peoples with Marvin and May Martin... After reconnecting on Facebook I was astounded at her indomitable spirit and patience as she battled so many physical things... My condolences to Brian and family.. going to try to add a couple of pictures from us as teenagers

Laura was a great friend. Even though I wasn't always able to come and visit her, we had many phone conversations. She was grateful for any assistance I could give her whether it was rearranging her pantry, to baking or wrapping Christmas presents for her family or providing health care or 'babysitting' her when Brian had to go out of town. She was loved by her family and friends. I will miss her and our candid conversations. RIP Laura, love you. ❤️

Sincere condolences to Laura's family. May Reader worked with Laura in the bookstore in The Pas and the two of them were lighthouses to all who shopped at Harvest Books. May passed away last week and I'm sure there is a happy reunion of the two in heaven. Laura's hospitality was her special gift.
